Molly's Astrology for January 2007
Happy New Year!! My apologies to everyone for posting this forecast so late.
January 1-8
The first four days of January are conducive to technical or scientific work and bursts of mental energy, as the Sun and Mercury sextile Uranus. But I’m late posting my forecast, and you already knew that.
The weekend is clear and easygoing, for the most part. A Mars Saturn trine is setting up in the sky. This trine combines energy (Mars) with focus and discipline (Saturn). It’s a great weekend to make plans, tackle a project around the house or get things done. The positive energy continues through Monday afternoon, when the trine is exact.
January 9-14
Two distinct aspects are setting up this week. First, Venus, the love vibe in detached, impersonal, friendly Aquarius, lines up in harmony with Jupiter in outgoing and adventurous Sagittarius. Venus-Jupiter pairs beauty, relationships and finance with abundance, optimism and luck. It’s a sign of relaxed attitudes and good cheer.
However, as this happy go lucky marker passes on Friday morning, we are left with the other aspect that has also been building up: Mars conjunct Pluto. Now, Pluto has been very close to a trine with Saturn in the sky since December. And we can think of transiting Mars carrying some of the energy from Saturn, which he touched on Monday, and transferring it to Pluto. In this sense, he re-awakens the energy of this very powerful and positive Saturn-Pluto trine.
As nice as that is, the combination of these three planets in any configuration, even an easy one like a trine, is a lot to handle. The Mars-Pluto combination with a whiff of Saturn can be very productive, but it’s explosive at the same time. Stay away from dangerous places and uncompromising people.
The Mars-Pluto conjunction passes by early on Saturday morning, and we’re left with what looks like a pretty easygoing weekend. Saturday’s a little spacey, but otherwise, no big events to interfere with your plans.
January 15-22
Jupiter square Uranus is the big news for January, and it really starts to power up this week. “Lots of” (Jupiter) squares “Change, rebellion, nervous energy, technology, invention, unusual things.” (Uranus) Squares involving Uranus jangle us. On the positive side, we can channel this tension to better ourselves and our circumstances. Uranus energy can bring things to a breaking point, a place of “I can’t stand to do this another day!” And this can be productive if there are areas where you need to break free in order to live in alignment with your truth, your “higher mind,” your philosophy and morality (Jupiter). Be open to change, but don’t jump off any cliffs.
On the negative side, there are technology problems, and sudden shifts that take us by surprise. Don’t gamble more than you can afford to lose, or take unnecessary risks. It’s likely we will see lots of (Jupiter) divorces and separations (Uranus) around us and in the mass media. Job changes are also likely, and unusual money making ideas that turn out to be scams. Just because it’s unusual, doesn’t mean it’s good. Investigate things carefully. Many friendships and social groups, as well as professional and political alliances, go through a period of instability and change.

As this energy builds, on the 15th and 16th, two planets move into new signs. Mercury, our thinking, shifts from serious, concentrated Capricorn to experimental, logical Aquarius. And Mars moves from happy-go-lucky Sagittarius, to Capricorn. Mars is actually quite happy in Capricorn, the sign of his exaltation. It’s a very good sign for him, perhaps the best of all. If planets are like actors, and signs are like the roles they play, then Mars, the warrior, is quite comfortable in the Capricorn role— the businessperson, the CEO, the top dog. So watch transiting Mars over the next two months. Watch his transits to your chart, and to other planets in the sky, as these are signals of times when you can tackle difficult problems and get a lot of work done.
A New Moon on January 18 represents a time when we re-focus our energies, consciously or unconsciously, on what we will be doing over the next two weeks. Jan Spiller, in her book New Moon Astrology, suggests focusing on issues such as developing self-discipline, planning for retirement, aging gracefully, defining goals.
This New Moon is particularly suited to working with prayer and intention, as Venus conjoins Neptune the same day. Venus-Neptune is dreamy and out of focus, a time to let things drift, go along with the flow, and connect with your spiritual Source. It’s not a time when we are particularly realistic. We prefer romance to reality, and it is easy to get caught up in illusions.
The counterpart to this Venus-Neptune conjunction comes on Sunday and Monday, as Venus opposes realistic Saturn. This signals more grounded and perhaps pessimistic attitudes.
If we look at the big picture around this five day period (the 17th-22nd), we can work with the idea of bringing the energy of the Saturn Neptune opposition. It’s about balancing physical reality with spiritual truth, honoring both sides of the opposition. It’s about dealing with fear and insecurity. It’s about bringing more fluidity (Neptune) into the structures and rules (Saturn) that govern your relationships with others, as well as your core values and finances (Venus). It’s a crazy few days, with the Jupiter Uranus square at full throttle. Take a few moments to breathe deeply, sit back and watch the fireworks if you can!
January 23-28
The aftermath. The big square has reached its peak, and the activity and energy around it begins to peter out. As it does, we may still see some unexpected, surprising things around us.
January 25-26, Mars lines up in a sesquisquare Saturn, signalling frustrating delays. There’s a possibility of knee/joint problems for those who are susceptible. It’s best to avoid surgery and dental work. Mercury conjoins Neptune early on Friday. This means you’ll feel increasingly spacey on Thursday, through Friday morning. Friday afternoon and evening are touchy as the Moon squares three planets in rapid succession. Keep things simple.
Mercury moves into an opposition with Saturn over the weekend. This can represent poopy attitudes and resistance to new ideas. But it is a great time to clean out the garage or get tedious work done.
On Saturday, Venus, representing love and money, moves out of detached and impersonal Aquarius, and into dreamy, romantic, psychic Pisces. Venus is exalted in Pisces. The love goddess gets to change out of the lab coat and into a gossamer gown. And we may all be feeling a little more dreamy, romantic and creative as she does so.
January 29-31
Solutions to complex problems appear as Mercury sextiles Pluto, exact on Wednesday evening. The sextile favors research, healing, accounting, investments, and self improvement. Ask for what you need. People are generally in a more positive frame of mind and ready to help out.
Mark your calendar!
The best days for you high priority plans are January 1, 3, 7-12, 23-25.
Keep things simple January 18-22, 26, 28.

My birthday is the 26th….steer clear of complication…got it.
My Bday is 10/23. I am leaving for an overseas trip jan 26th till feb 24th. How does it look will it be safe trip. I have your clalnder it is beautiful.
Any remarks for 2007 as a year? Or is that too much of a generalization?
Chandrika,
I’m glad you’re liking the calendar!
January 26, Mercury will conjoin Neptune and head towards opposition with Saturn. The Moon will be in Taurus and will square all that mess in the evening hours (EST). That makes travel pretty touchy. Possible delays, flight cancellations, weather problems. Bring a book and some food with you!
February 24 is in the middle of Mercury retrograde. Always an interesting time to travel. Sometimes folks get lucky and travel goes without a hitch, no delays. I wouldn’t count on it, though. Prepare for Murphy’s Law time. Pack a pair of underwear in your carry-on, a good book and some food.
(Maybe it’s my Venus in Taurus talking, but I prefer food from home to expensive and crummy airport food. Airport food has gotten better recently, but still.)
Christine, I kind of like what I see in 2007. The big news items are Saturn opposite Neptune (which so far seems to be pretty good unless you’re a homophobic closet-gay preacher, a closet anything for that matter, or a Republican), Saturn trine Pluto, Jupiter trine Saturn, Jupiter conjunct Pluto.
Molly-
I’m supposed to have my taxes done on Feb. 10 right before Mercury goes retrograde. Do you think that will be a safe time or it is better mid March once the retrograde is over all together?
Beth,
It depends on how routine a job it is. If there have been a lot of changes in your situation this year, for example, it might be best to wait. Not because of Mercury rx, but because the Moon is v/c all day on the 10th. We tend to be spacey and drifty while the Moon is v/c.
Mercury rx favors review and gathering information. So it could be a good time to do taxes, as long as you look everything over again when Mercury turns direct.
Hi Molly,
My birthday is 5/9/1941. After several years’ worth of frustrating delays, I’m scheduled to FINALLY have the first of my two hipsockets replaced March 13, 2007 and the other one in six months or so. I waited until after the Mercury retrograde, but since I’ve waited THIS long for surgery, is this the best time to go ahead with these replacements? It’ll be at least a full year of surgeries, therapy and healing so I want to make sure it’s done at optimal positive aspect time, if possible.
