Molly's Astrology for June 2005

As above, so below. This is a basic premise of astrology. Not that the planets and stars command us or influence us by way of cosmic rays, but that they are signs and signals that we can read to get a sense of the world around us. Astrologers have been perfecting this art for millennia.

As I look at the planetary phenomena coming up in June, it looks like a relatively mellow month. I say relatively, because 2005 has been a very intense year, with a lot of stress and change. And there’s more to come, later in the year. June does have a few days of what amounts to intense squabbling among planets, particularly the first 10 days. But the big picture is much calmer and quieter than it has been in recent months1.

June 1 and 2: Don’t go there. Mars, bringer of war, meets Pluto, bringer of life and death, in the heavens. Intense stuff. This meeting has the potential to be very healing—or to be very repressive or destructive. This is not good time to get into a fight or argument. The mood of the day is uncompromising, people are resisting, angry, passive-aggressive. These first ten days of June are a time of dealing with issues of power, life and death, which is especially difficult for so many people in this “happy face” society. So take it easy, and stay away from dangerous places and people. It couldn’t hurt to send some prayers out to all those who find themselves caught up in the machinery of war at this time.

The mood shifts on Friday the 3rd, as the love goddess, Venus, begins her journey through one of her favorite signs—Cancer. Thursday’s foul mood has shifted, Mars has moved into a friendly trine with hardworking Saturn, and we move ahead into more constructive frames of mind. The balsamic Moon favors meditative activities, finishing up old projects, pulling weeds, giving up old habits, and clearing away garbage and junk.

A new Moon on Monday the 6th2 erases the emotional chalkboard and connects with Neptune, reminding us all to be soft and compassionate this week—because it’s a challenging one.

June 6 and 7 are great days for research, as Mercury opposes Pluto. Our minds are more focused and attuned to Pluto’s realm of life and death—to issues of power, jealousy, sexuality, and those primal feelings that most of us learned at an early age to hide in the closets of our unconscious. That’s why our words have the power to expose others, bringing out their best or their worst. Situations involving gossip or drama may turn uglier after the softening Sun Neptune trine passes by in the wee hours of Wednesday the 8th.

Mercury then carries Pluto’s light to angry Mars, signaling rash decisions and sharp words. This tense, frustrating aspect builds in power on Wednesday and Thursday, and peaks on Friday the 10th. Slow down during these days. Breathe deeply, and know that better days are just ahead.

Saturday, June 11— Mercury and Mars both enter new signs, clearing the air and shifting everyone’s attitude. Mercury moves from chatty Gemini to emotional Cancer, making it easier for us to get out of our heads. Mars moves from meandering Pisces to straight-shooting Aries, and we know what we want again, our attitudes lighten up and we get a fresh perspective on things. An uncompromising mood or attitude present on Monday the 13th, may result in a “whoops, I wish I hadn’t said that” moment on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thursday is clear, solutions appear, and good ideas abound. Friday’s a little cloudy and spacey.. why not take the afternoon off and write Dad a letter.

Easygoing Lunar aspects on Father’s Day suggest a good mood in the air.

A full Moon in Capricorn early on the 22nd infuses the next two weeks with responsibility and work, and a heavier than usual mood. Slow down on Friday and Saturday, as Mars opposes Jupiter. This incites hasty actions, and maybe an argument, if one or both parties are acting like infants (Mars in Aries). Compromise, or agree to disagree. The wind will shift again soon.

Friday the 25th, and the weekend that follows, bear the weight of two contacts to serious, hardworking Saturn. This weekend is well-suited for work. The downside of Saturn is heavy, depressed moods and negative thinking. If you find yourself in a downward spiral, putting yourself to work—especially cleaning or working around your home—can help you get into a better frame of mind.

As Mercury and Venus both enter Leo in the early morning hours on Tuesday the 28th, our focus turns from our bellies, homes and families, to our hearts, our creativity, and our need to have something to feel proud of. For some of us, it manifests inwardly, but others like to jump on center stage. You’ll grease the wheels of peace if you find and honor that bit of true sunshine in everyone you meet (including yourself), even if you have to dig deeply to find it.

Mark your calendar!

The best days for your most important plans are June 3, 4, 6, 11, 16, 29.

  2. Hmmmmm wonder if this is a typeo?

“June 1 and 2: Don't go there. Mars, bringer of war, meets Pluto, bringer of life and death, in the heavens?

I thought Pluto was in Sag, Mars in Pisces.

  3. Thanks for keeping an eye on me, Naomi! I do make a lot of typos, but not this time... You are right about the signs. Mars and Pluto meet in a square, exactly 90 degrees apart.

How funny, Becky.. The Duran Duran song got stuck in my head as I was writing this. Rock on!
