Molly's Astrology for June 2006

Take a look up at the sky. What do you see? If the night sky is clear, you’ll see the Moon and stars. In the morning sky, you may catch a glimpse of Venus. In the evening, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are visible.

Humans have watched the planets traverse the sky for millennia. It’s in our blood. Over time, people from many different cultures have noticed and catalogued a correlation between planetary phenomena and worldly events. Astrology is the art of applying this ancient wisdom to our world today.

Our forebears taught us that certain aspects (angular alignments of planets in the sky) tend to show up at times of difficulty here on earth. Others signal harmony and ease, things falling into place— an interplanetary “kiss!” Like our ancestors, we can watch these signs of the times to anticipate events in our world. These events are like the weather— the same for everyone, regardless of your sign. Even more insight can be had by analyzing the relationship of this changing sky with your birth chart.

But the planets impel; they do not compel. Life is part fate, part free will. This is where astrology is so useful— knowing the “lay of the land” gives you a huge advantage when you’re making decisions and scheduling important events.

June 1-3

The first couple of days of June are pretty easygoing except for a jumpy sesquisquare between Mars and Uranus. Be a little extra careful in traffic. There are two planets at the end of their signs, Mars and Mercury. This suggests that we’re wrapping up loose ends from some old matter, and getting ready to start something new. The waxing Moon supports our developing and growing outward from the roots we established and nourished in the last two weeks of May.

On Saturday morning, Mercury moves from thinky, talky Gemini to emotional, feely Cancer. This is symbolic of our minds shifting from the realm of ideas, to a more emotional place. It’s time to tune into the emotional currents in your work and business, as feelings will affect people’s decisions and purchases this month and next.

Aslan is on the move

Saturday afternoon, Mars exits Cancer and pushes forth into regal Leo, where he will stay until late July. This is a good transition. You can think about planets in astrology as characters in a play, and the Zodiac signs as the costumes they wear. Mars in Cancer has G.I. Joe in a nurse’s uniform, performing a mothering, care taking role. Uncomfortable, touchy. And when Mars is uncomfortable, our physical energy is lower than usual. As Mars enters Leo, it’s time for a costume change. Rock star! Aslan, the gentle yet awe-inspiring lion king. Father, protector. Yes, that’s better.

The Gambler

As Mars enters Leo, he brings the count of planets in fixed signs up to five. That’s a lot of fixed energy! Fixed signs indicate deeply held convictions, and the energy is slow moving, but good for building things that are stable and permanent. Fixed signs have stamina. But fixed energy can also signal stuck feelings, stubbornness and rigidity. You need to know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em, especially if you have planets in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in your birth chart. And pay special attention when the Moon moves through a fixed sign in the sky.

June 4-7

Yet the weekend still packs a serious vibe, maybe even gloomy. Venus entered her home sign, Taurus, in late May. On Sunday, she meets up with Saturn in a challenging square. The Sun squares electric Uranus as well, bringing an element of shock and surprise to the picture. Keep things simple this Sunday. Caution lights are on around relationships. This is not the time to try to change someone’s mind.

Illustration

Meanwhile, Jupiter over on the other side of the sky in Scorpio is getting close to a square to Saturn, which will be exact on June 22. As Venus moves through this incoming square, Sunday through Wednesday, she plucks its strings, bringing it into play, especially in the areas of love, money, and beauty— Venus’s domain. With Jupiter and Saturn involved, we may swing between confident optimism and pessimistic negativity. The trick is to find a balance. Be aware of your own and other people’s limitations, and be practical as you work toward your vision, but don’t lose your faith.

One of the downsides of Venus in Taurus is accumulation of material things. My own downfall is books. I am constantly buying books. But do I constantly read books? No! Even though I get so much benefit when I do sit down and focus on one book for an extended time, I tend to be more of a skimmer. The message I am getting from this Jupiter-Saturn square, particularly as Venus in Taurus gets involved is, focus on effectively using the resources you have, rather than acquisition. This week, ask yourself what you have accumulated but not appreciated. Maybe it’s books, or clothes, or plants, or power tools, or underutilized talent in the workplace. Quality, not quantity.

June 8-13

The energy shifts pretty quickly as several trines form in the sky. Trines signal harmony, compatibility, removal of obstacles. On June 8, Mercury trines Jupiter, and attitudes are more optimistic, people are more agreeable and in the mood for adventure. Both planets are in intuitive water signs, a signal that we all tend to be more aware of our own emotional temperature, and sensitive to others’.

On Friday the 9th, the Moon is Void of Course all day. It’s a drifty, spacey day, made for getting organized and performing routine tasks, not for complex meetings and decisions. Save the important stuff for Monday if you can.

Sag

The weekend looks splendid, with the Sun, Venus, and Mercury all in happy relationship with other planets. The Sun trines creative, intuitive Neptune, while Venus sextiles Uranus, signalling excitement and pleasant surprises.

A Full Moon in Sagittarius Sunday night is a good time to take aim— focus on your goals and visions, those things you would like to bring into your life. While the Sun is in Gemini, we tend to focus on the details, the “how” of what we are doing. The Full Moon in Sag awakens us to the “why” and asks that we tune into our innate wisdom deep within. With Pluto moving through the late degrees of Sag, many of the whys have changed in the past ten years. We are no longer satisfied with “just because” or other surface explanations that leave us feeling hungry.

Monday morning, the Moon enters hardworking Capricorn, and Mercury trines inventive Uranus. It’s the best day of all for taking care of important business and solving complex problems. Tuesday morning also looks good, until the Moon goes Void of Course at 12:50 pm ET.

June 14-22

On Wednesday, Venus in Taurus squares idealistic Neptune. Stay grounded, and hold on to your money. It’s a dreamy day, a day made for imagination and creativity. But it’s easy to mistake your creations for reality, and disappointing when you realize you have. Thursday and Friday, the Sun opposes powerful and uncompromising Pluto. There’s an awareness of the currents of power with this pair, an emotional current (almost obsessive) that draws us in deeply to look at the reasons behind the reasons. You can channel this energy and use it to create something transformative and healing, or uncompromising, dark and destructive.

Happy Father’s Day? Well, that depends. Mars and Saturn meet up in Leo, the sign of the father. Mars is action, speed, desire. Saturn is limitations, responsibility, results of past actions. It’s like having one foot on the gas and one on the brake. Sounds frustrating doesn’t it? And dangerous— take things slow, and don’t take chances with safety this weekend. And join me in sending a prayer out to all who are affected by war at this time. Jupiter’s also in the picture (Mars touches the Jupiter Saturn square).

This is one of those times when, more than ever, we need to apply a reality check to guard against overconfidence. A happy-go-lucky attitude can cost you. Instead of jumping in impatiently, spend time connecting with your Source, that inner wisdom that shapes your ethics and guides you to your goals. For bonus points, help others do the same. A new Lunar cycle begins next week, and it’s time to think ahead, make plans, and clear the way for a new flurry of activity.

The first day of Winter!

Don’t forget the Solstice on June 21. No, I don’t live in the southern hemisphere. My friend Judith says she considers the day of the Winter Solstice to be the first day of Summer, so she has something to look forward to. Same for the Summer Solstice. The days are getting shorter, so… happy first day of Winter, everyone!

June 23-30

Phew! That was intense, wasn’t it. Things are mellowing out now that the Jupiter-Saturn square has passed, Mars has moved away from the square, and Venus moves from fixed Taurus into mutable Gemini on Friday evening, moving the relationship vibe to a more flexible, adaptable place.

A New Moon in Cancer on Sunday afternoon draws our attention to home and family matters, and gets the ball rolling on new projects. Cancer is a proactive cardinal sign, a builder who is primarily concerned with creating security, safety and emotional well being. Cancer governs the stomach, so it’s time to pay attention to your diet, and the ways you are caring (or not caring) for your physical being.

If you want to be ahead of the game, back up your computer and get your car in shape this week. Then you’ll be ready for Mercury retrograde, which begins on July 4 and lasts for three weeks.

The end of the month is upbeat, with the Sun in an easygoing trine with lucky Jupiter on Friday evening.

Mark your calendar!

The best days for your highest priority plans are June 8, 10, 12, 30.
Take it easy on June 4, 6, 14, 16-22, 26-29.

  2. Dear Molly,
I know you hear this all the time but I still want to say that I appreciate you greatly for what you’re doing, and I trust your ideas greatly. I usually only read the month’s horoscope and drop a thank you note but I’ve a huge favor to ask this time. I’m on the brink of a major life path change- I want to drop everything and apply for PhD programs in the US (i live in turkey). But before I burn all my bridges and leave all my life behind, I want to know if this is “written in the stars” at all. Does my life have a potential for academic career and living abroad? This is my question. All kinds of answers will be appreciated greatly.
    Love, Pelin

  3. Hey Pelin!

I am not Molly, but I read your message and thought: “Ah! Go, man, go!” You’re far too young to burn all your bridges. I don’t mean this in a condescending way- I am not much older than you. But life is for living!Iwent to Turkey spontaneously. So I feel compelled to encourage you to come to North America in the same spirit!

Astrology is helpful, inspiring, and beautiful. But hopefully, it encourages you to also trust yourself and your own decisions. I wish you the best as you aspire to grow, learn, and expand. Go, go, go! And be well.

  4. Well, I won $25 but I’ve had so many minor mishaps too. Left 2 pots on the burners and went out. Could have burnt the place down. Hurried back and took the burnt egg, curious, cracked it open only to have it explode (saturn on pluto leo)burning my hand. Mutterings complaints getting into bed and throwing myself back onto the pillows, hitting the night table instead, cracking my head real good. Brusing my hand real good trying to get me and the box thro the door. It’s been unreal. Not me. Molly I agree, great site. I do the same with books but I love the one I’m reading now called Yoga, by Muni. Best Book of the Year, by Nauropathy, gov’t of India etc. Just stubbed my toe forgetting I put the threadmill down today., looking for the book. Unreal…What is it …... 666!
I pray with you for the poor people in war situations.
    Gratitude for your wonderful site.
    Charley.

  5. Hey Christy!
You know what, you’re right. I have to do this for myself, especially because I have this vision of myself reading in a college library in nyc. If i can picture it, i can do it, i believe. I just wanted to get a second opinion because astrology works so well with my belief system. Thank you so much for the inspiration though! And take care.

    — pelin    8 June 2006    #
  6. If it makes any difference, I agree with Christy, and I have the astro to back it up. Sag loves to explore foreign countries and new ideas. So it really fits your chart.

I was kind of surprised that you asked me if you shoud apply. What have you got to lose by applying?! By all means, apply, and see what doors open. If I were you, I’d try applying to schools in a few other countries just to see what comes back.

  7. One more question. I believe in saturn’s 29 yr cycle culminating in the harvest. I met my yoga teacher a few years after the return. Later in life my present male companion met me when he was 29ish. Do you think it’s a signal of karma with me til he’s 58ish.? Not many seem to think this way. Thanks.

    — Charlly Bedard    8 June 2006    #
  8. I don't know, Charlly. Commitment is certainly a major theme at the time of the Saturn return around age 29. I suppose any couple that is together for that long has got to have karma together.

    — Molly    8 June 2006    #
  9. Seems like there’s been a theme of people hearing from those in their distant past lately: old friend, cousin, principal from high school where someone worked. Is there an astrological explanation for this?

    — M. Emmons    8 June 2006    #
  10. Hi M--
Usually something like that is a byproduct of a personal planet in retrograde. Mercury retrograde, and Venus especially.

I haven't had any "blasts from the past" lately-- anyone else?

  12. Molly, I am a sag with a jupiter retrograde in cancer…is it true that in a progressed chart this jupiter could go direct… and if so what about other planets that were direct at birth … could they then turn retro?...

    — dan carter    11 June 2006    #
  13. Hi Dan—yes, a secondary progression is roughly a day-for-a-year. So if I’m 35 years old, my secondary progressed chart will the the chart of the day roughly 35 days after my birth. If any planets changed direction in that time, they will have changed direction in my progressed chart.

However, there are other kinds of progressions called directions. In a Solar arc direction chart, all planets advance forward through the Zodiac at the rate of roughly one degree per year (the daily speed of the Sun), whether or not they are retrograde at birth or by progression.

  14. Hi Molly,
Love your site. I have Virgo Ascendant, Libra Sun and a Taurus Moon and this past few years have been nothing but a karmic roller coaster. (That South Node is no joke). Now that it (South Node) is moving off of my Sun, it moves to my ascendant. And, then big daddy Saturn will go through my ascendant and onto my Sun. If my moon were in Scorpio, the picture would be very complete, but it does happen to be opposite Scorpio in Taurus.
My question is, am I having to endure the lessons of these transits for double the time because of the way my chart falls?

    Thanks,
    Krystal

    — Krystal    13 June 2006    #
  15. Krystal,

The transiting South Node moves relatively quickly, so the transit to the degree of a planet in your chart lasts at most a few weeks. I suggest you read up on the Nodes and focus on developing the more positive qualities of both signs involved. The thing about the South Node is that we feel more compelled to do the more counterproductive stuff (with Virgo it’s worry). But remember, the transiting North Node is somewhere too, signaling an alternative.

Saturn won’t reach Virgo until mid 2007, Libra in late 2009.. and yes, he will conjoin your ascendant, but he will also trine your Moon at some point.

You should determine when exactly the transit will touch your birth chart. You seem to think it’s the entire time Saturn is in the sign, and that’s not the case. True Saturn is in the same building as you are when it’s in your sign. When the planet gets to about 5 degrees from your natal planet, it’s in the same room, and within 1 degree, breathing down your neck.

So if you look, you will see these stress periods are far off, and there’s a lot of space between them for you to focus on developing a positive outlook and figure out how you are going to make the most of this time. Saturn is not all bad!!

I suggest that you meditate on this idea: it is better to be the agent of change than the victim of change.

  16. Hi Molly,
    Really interesting site.
I have always wondered-I was born on the summer solstice, June 21st.. Is there any astrological significance to being born on this day?
I’m Sun in Gemini, Moon in Cancer, Asc. Scorpio.
This has been a mixed Spring for sure. (great and awful simultaneously).
    Any insights are appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    Hilary

  17. Hi Molly,

My birthday is July 24, 1954 & I have a Taurus moon and ascendant. Since I’ve been experiencing Saturn for almost a year now, I’m wondering if it will be “backing off” a bit soon?
I’ve chosen to re-locate during the past year and have not yet sold my home which has been for sale since January. Any light at the end of the tunnel?
    Thanks so much!
    Lynne

    — Lynne    20 June 2006    #
  18. Hi Lynne—
Without a time and location of birth, I have no way of knowing the degree of your Moon and ascendant, which Saturn will square before he leaves Leo. If he hasn’t already. Transit Saturn square your Moon is definitely one to keep an eye on when you’re selling your home. That will most likely come sometime next year. And Saturn square your ascendant can throw some interference into contracts and agreements as well. But you need a complete chart with an accurate time to figure the ascendant. Without a birth time, I have no way of telling you when that happened or will happen. Sorry.

  19. ok, the people from the past- whew I have been blasted by 3 men who have come to the door ringing the bell with apology and 2 marriage proposals.. at first it is a trip for the ole’ ego.. then disturbing… I offered friendship and support to all and am currently in a relationship with a wonderful man soon to ship out to Iraq..( He proposed as well ) he is the new man who has never broke my heart.. and deserves the chance..I am the one with the cold fins..I am looking for other Piscians born same time frame..of 3/15/64 to correspond with for something to do while my honey is away.

  20. Hi, Very interesting website. I am pisces by Vedic astrology born on october 23. I have capricon rising or ascendent. Mercury is in ninth house in Virgo. Mercury is considered the lord of the ninth house. How will mercury retrgrade affect my chart?. I am getting ready to open 2 new clinic and signing a lease with in weeks time. I am worried and stress. Thx for your input. Chadrika

    — chandrika    26 June 2006    #
  21. Hi Chadrika--
I'm sorry but I don't read Vedic charts. Western and Vedic are completely different systems, and there's no way to read one in the fashion of the other. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

    — Molly    27 June 2006    #
  22. Hi, I believe in both charts. If I am born on 23rd october how will mercry retrograde affect me?? Chandrika

    — chandrika    28 June 2006    #
  23. Chandrika, that’s great, but I still can’t read a Vedic chart. And I can’t cast a Western chart without knowing more specifics, the birth year at the very least, and a more specific timeframe for the contract signing. I can tell you that I would be hesitant to sign a major contract during Mercury retrograde unless the rest of the chart is very, very good.

If you would like to consult with me about the date of your opening, please contact me for a private consultation. I would rather not handle something this important so informally, here in the comments.
