Molly's Astrology for May 2006
Dear readers: I had a family emergency come up the last week of April. And I have a lot of catching up to do. So I’ll skip my usual fancy introduction and jump right in.
Economic changes are just starting to show their full effects. Jupiter is going to square Saturn this year, beginning in June.
Jupiter and
Saturn are political and financial planets. This normally signals a period of inflation and rising interest rates. The “official numbers” say there’s low or no inflation. Isn’t that a hoot. Of course they leave out things like housing, fuel and food. You know, those non-essentials that nobody buys.
For some good financial astrology info, go visit Henry Weingarten’s web page. Fascinating stuff.
In 2000, when Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct, I attended a talk by astrologer Gary Brand, who pointed out that the Jupiter-Saturn cycle has two distinct halves. During the first half, while Jupiter is moving away from Saturn, conservatives tend to be in power. Sort of like now. (If you can call these folks conservative.) This first half began in 2000 and lasts until 2010. The Jupiter-Saturn square next month marks the halfway point of this first hemicycle.
During the second half, which begins in 2010, the left wing tends to take power and promote a more progressive agenda.
May 1-7
Things are moving along. Mercury in Aries trines Pluto on May 2, here are solutions, ideas, which come in quickly and sharply. Both planets are nearing the end their signs, signalling things coming to a close, coming together, and getting ready to move on to something else.
Jupiter trines Uranus on May 4. This has been percolating since April. It’s a period of extra good luck regarding technology, and a time when rebels can go off the deep end. The doors are open, and things are developing rapidly.
May 5-7, Good Fortune. Mars touches Jupiter and Uranus, keeping the trine going for a few more days. In fact, Mars sets up what’s called a grand trine, or three planets in the sky that form a perfect triangle around the Earth. These three planets are all in water signs—emotional, intuitive, sensitive. With Jupiter involved, it can be excessive if your engine is already revved up pretty high, because resistance disappears. So keep your feet on the ground. Saturn enters the picture as well this weekend, and Saturn calls for practicality and stability.
May 8-13
May 8-10, it’s easy to get caught up in the illusion rather than the reality. There’s a spacey, mystical vibe that you can tap into as the Sun squares Neptune. Pay attention to dreams, but don’t get caught up in fantasies. Errors in judgement are more likely, either because you don’t have all the facts or because you’re not willing to face the truth.
May 11-12, Mercury opposes Jupiter and sextiles Uranus. Here are bright, brilliant, inventive new ideas and solutions with practical underpinnings (Mercury in Taurus). Thinking along new lines, or asserting your independence. Sales go a little easier, as Jupiter greases the wheels. This is an excellent time to purchase gadgets. Just make sure it’s something you really need, as Mercury Jupiter does signal eyes-bigger-than-stomach, impulsive decisions.
A Full Moon in passionate, extreme, intense Scorpio in the wee hours on Saturday brings changes and culminations, and brings emotions to a high point Friday night. The Moon then turns Void of Course, signalling unfocused, floaty energy until Saturday afternoon. Mercury sextile Mars on Saturday signals lots of mental activity and provides a vent for intense feelings. You may do lots of thinking but not resolve anything until the Moon enters Sag in the evening. I bet there will be lots of passionate bloggers going for it this weekend.
May 14-20
Three planets contact Neptune this week. On Sunday, Mercury (our thinking, plans and details) squares Neptune (confusion). I’ll be keeping Mother’s Day sweet and simple, and counting my blessings. A mom, who lives nearby, who I enjoy spending time with. Everyone should be so lucky. Love you, Mom.
Monday through Wednesday, Mars (action) tangles with Neptune in an inconjunct. Who trashed the instruction book? A misfire, someone spinning their wheels, someone takes something personally and reacts inappropriately, wastefully, or underhandedly.
Peace prevails later in the week, as lovey-dovey Venus sextiles Neptune. Thursday and Friday are great for working on prettying things up, as inspiration, fantasy and free ideas float around your home or office. Wise women Antoinette and Dona1 advise you to avoid hanky-panky on the job with this one. “It would not be wise to mix business with pleasure as rumors could be unreliable or even detrimental. Also, our unrealistic tendency could lend itself to mistakes we regret later on.”
May 21-31
Sunday and Monday are great for getting work done. Folks are practical, level-headed, and ready to roll. And the Sun has just entered lively, chatty Gemini, who exists in the realm of ideas and takes a bite out of every chocolate, rather than choosing just one. Keep your activities varied, and your chances of staying interested are better.
Tuesday, bite your tongue and hang on to your money. Impulsiveness can get you into trouble! And people are a bit more tightly wound and easily aggravated, as Venus squares Mars.
Something bigger is brewing between now and May 30, as Jupiter moves into a semisquare with Pluto. A semisquare is a 45-degree angle. It’s half the size and also half the power of a square. Interesting thing about it is, these two planets are in mutual reception. Jupiter’s in Pluto’s sign, Scorpio. And Pluto is in Jupiter’s sign, Sag. So they help each other out. This means you can get a lot done, especially if you’re focused on Plutonian things, such as remodeling or restoration, clearing away garbage, purification, therapy.
Jupiter is “lots of,” and his eyes are often bigger than his stomach. This is what you need to watch for, excess. Salespeople who promise you something bigger than life, than fail to deliver. Staple your wallet shut if you have to. And don’t get involved in other people’s messes. Leave well enough alone unless you want to get sucked in.
Wednesday and Thursday, Venus trines Pluto. It’s a good day to reach out and bridge gaps in relationships. Just don’t try to win anyone over to your way of thinking just yet. As Mercury squares Uranus, maybe we hit the coffee pot a little too hard. Our nerves are keyed up, and we either can’t sit still long enough, or we aren’t ready for new ideas. Don’t buy machinery or do anything too complicated with your computer these two days either.
Friday, stillness. It’s the dark of the Moon, the period just before the New Moon. Anticipation of something new is in the air. Maybe a weekend trip? As Mercury trines Neptune over the weekend, sure, you might be a little addled, but unplanned detours can be lots of fun. Just watch out for drunks (Neptune) on the road, even with the trine. And if there’s a chance that one of those might be you, for goodness’ sake, don’t even think about driving, it is so not worth it. Take a cab.
On Monday, Venus enters Taurus, and our social lives and interactions go from fast-paced and impulsive, to more steady and rooted. Tuesday and Wednesday, Mercury opposes Pluto. Choose your words carefully, and think twice before getting into an argument. Some people will try to throw their power around. Don’t lose sight of fairness and consideration for others, and try not to obsess on a singular idea or get hung up the details.
Mark your calendar!

Molly,
Just got to read the May forcast. I am running so behind. Thanks to you for your mother' day call-- sorry to have missed talking to you. Also thank you and your Mom for being with me during the passing of our Mom/Granny. You were a blessing to me during that trying time.
Love to you,
Aunt Patsy
aww that’s sweet
So sorry to hear about your grandmother. I send you love.
Molly, this month has been particularly challenging with regard to relationships. I broke up with the guy I was seeing becuase his ex-girlfriend re-entered the picture. My ex has asked me to take him back. A guy I dated last year and was crazy about has resurfaced only to let me down again, and it continues. As far as I can see there were no major planetary aspects to cause this, am I right? So my assumption is that it may be related to the eclipses in March. Can this be so? And if so, when can I expect things to settle? I am also a life coach and there have been a number of pretty serious “crisis” in the lives of my clients, too.
As always, thanks for your guidance.
