Venus retrograde occurs about every 18 months and lasts about six weeks. Venus is the planet that represents love, attraction, and money, as well as our aesthetic tastes and basic beliefs about the value of people and objects in our lives.

As long as it won't alter your appearance, I wouldn't worry about it. Things I would worry about would be a drastic new haircut, tattoo, buying all new clothes in a different style, boob job, nose job, etc.
Try to get a waxing Moon, not in Capricorn, and no bad aspects to Saturn.

Venus Retrograde: My house should have sold -- Jup is the ruler of my 4th house and at some pt. I had a Jup return; then conj natal No. node; then conj. natal Neptune -- all trine natal Venus. I can't believe that it is still on the market after 6 mos. (Last month it was under contract for a quick sale -and it fell out!) Even though we are struggling at this time to keep two mtgs paid on time, I am questioning whether it would be wise to take this house off the market during the Venus Retrograde and re-list after Feb. 3rd. (Would this prevent us from getting less money that the home is worth? or any other less-than-desirable circumstance(s)?) What would you suggest?
Hi Julie-- I don't think I would advise taking it off the market. What I might do is take some time to assess the situation, why the house hasn't sold. You might talk to a few other realtors about what they would have done differently to sell your house. Is the price appropriate for your market? Is there more that can be done to advertise the house? Retrogrades are all about review.
On a deeper level (and this would show up in your chart), make sure you have really truly let go of the house. Maybe some part of you is hanging on, and spiritually this may disrupt the sale.
If you do take it off the market and re-list, try listing the house when the Moon is in a cardinal sign-- Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn.

one question, is the suggestion to go to the closet or the garage to throw things out that may no longer be of benefit. maybe you toss the tiffany lamp because you wrongly value it???? or maybe you keep the great ugly parlor piano for specious reasons.

I am anxious and very curious to see how strongly this Venus retrograde will effect me.
On Feb. 3, Venus will turn direct motion right on top of my natal north node/4th house. To make things more interesting I have Libra asc. & my natal planets: Venus 11 degrees conjunct 4th cusp, then north node 17, Jupiter 23, Mercury 25, & Sun 30 (all in Capricorn & 4th house).
Saturn (9th/Gemini) is not too bad natal or transit-wise ... extremely thankful! =) (natal pluto conjunct 1st/ venus conjunct 4th/ chiron conjunct 7th ...transits can be stressful for me)
Any insight will be greatly appreciated! & of course I will post what I experience. Obviously will be more internal & emotional, but quite interesting!

I for one am looking forward to this Venus Rx. Having lived thru more V Rx's than I care to admit I have found it is a great time to find bargains, and this time especially during the craziest shopping frenzy of the year. I think we will see exceptional sales after the 25th but I would not want to be working in the “returns dept” of a major retail store!

Hi Raymond-- sorry, but you haven't given me enough information to be able to say much about your relocation, except to take the Venus retro message to heart and avoid spending a lot of money on paint and decor until February when it's over. Relocation is a Moon/4th house issue, not really a Venus issue. You might read my article on Saturn in Leo for some insight on the bigger picture in your life right now. I am very concerned about my surgery date after reading your site. I am having cosmetic surgery on January 13th. Venus is in retrograde. Does this seriously mean my operation wont give me the most results i am expecting? I am an aquarius.
Hi Nancy-- Venus retrograde is not considered a good time for any permanent aesthetic change, such as a tattoo or cosmetic surgery. Exactly how it would turn out, I don't know. If it were me, I would reschedule.

alg, I don't know that Venus rx would affect IVF at all. Venus is about money, relationships, aesthetics and values.

I have developed an unsual interest in Venus Retrogrades only recently, after I have read that it would be interesting to pay attention to the new people (as well as present relationships or acquaintances) who come into your life at this particular time. It appears to be a link to past lives ! Would you consider this approach interesting for a study ? I mean, I truly believe that astrology is a terrific tool if one knows how to use it, not all of us will become true professionals but most of us will love it whole-heartedly. This aspect intrigues me more than anything else, due to the “threshold” in my life right now. Molly...I am really struggling with forgiving my ex-boyfriend for how badly he treated me during our relationship. He is now involved with someone new and doing for her all the things he didn't do for me. Though our relationship ended almost 2 years ago, he continues to try and stay in touch with me and wants to have a friendship (which he has with his other ex girlfriend already). I'm a Libra and he is a Capricorn. I have a lot of anger and resentment towards him. He's been such a selfish jerk and now he has a chance to do it right with this new girl. It feels unfair and upsets me tremendously. I don't know how to let go of this anger. I don't want to be with him in a relationship, but I feel angry that he & she will get all that I didn't and I had to bear the hardship. I'm sorry for your loss and your sadness.
Do you really want to be friends at this point? It doesn't sound like it. Maybe you think you should, but hell! This is painful for you, you resent him, he upsets you! And you are correct that you need to let go and get some distance from the situation. How are you going to get that with him calling you all the time? You may have to do what no Libra wants to-- say no. Take a break, and use this Venus retrograde period to love on yourself.
Because trying to work out a messy situation during Venus rx is very difficult indeed. You need space, don't you? Then stop hemming and hawing, Libra-- tell him.

i considered sending an xmas gift to a romantic interest mid-dec. and a psychic told me the timing was off and i should wait 1-2 weeks for more favorable reception. interestingly i was going to send it during venus (direct) in my sun sign aquarius and it seems in retrospect that she was telling me to wait until venus went into retrograde. there was a sort of misunderstanding with this romantic interest in november and is it true that venus retrograde is a good time to straighten things out? Is Venus retrograde a bad time to hire a hypnotist for weight loss or do Weight Watchers? Also, you indicate in the article Venus retrograde is a good time to clean out closets but not a good time to shop because you might decide what you buy isn't really what you want after the retrograde. Could you decide if clean out your closets and get rid of what you think you don't want during the retrograde then when it is over you will really want it back?
The Moon is in Aries Thursday and Friday this week. (January 6-7.) Beyond that, you'll need to get an astrological calendar. You can get a great pocket sized one for 7 bucks or so at most bookstores. I use the Jim Maynard calendar, but there are lots of others to choose from. Avoid listing your house during a Moon v/c period.

Hypnotist for weight loss... maybe, just make sure you personally know people who this has worked for, and you understand the process. It works well, but not for everyone. I don't think Venus retro has much to do with it. Weight watchers would be good as well, the new Moon in Cap is all about forming goals and making committments.
If you're afraid you might get rid of something valuable, why don't you put it in a box and store it until later? The point is that Venus retrograde is all about RE-evaluating. Creating that space really feels good and opens up possibilities. If you are a habitual pack-rat that is. Especially if you're getting rid of stuff that is connected to painful memories.
I purge constantly.. some things I sell and others I just give away.. can't think of many things I have gotten rid of that I really feel bad about tossing. I wish I had some of my CD's from the 80s that I sold, but that's all I can think of.

I don't know if you're still checking in, but as I was lolling about in the bathtub, I got to thinking about you and your greeting card.
I'm happily coupled now (my 7th house Venus in Taurus loves that), but I remember Venus retrogrades when I was single. In 2001, I got romantically interested in a guy friend from college, one of the "ones who got away."? And I had the notion that maybe we might hook up, even though we hadn't seen each other in around 10 years, he was married, and he lived in another country! But man, I felt it strong, thought about him, dreamed about him. That's Venus retro for ya. I came to my senses once it passed.
A couple of years later, I had a crush on this guy-- he knew it, and I knew he knew it, but we were "just friends." One night he called, and we went to see Monsoon Wedding at the cheap theater. I could feel the "crush energy" radiating from me, sitting next to him. I mean, WOM WOM WOM, it was palpable. I was so embarassed. And there was nothing I could do about it! I know he could feel it too, and he was feeling weird about it. We actually did get together a few months later, and we're still together after 3 years.
The worst Venus retro ever for me was about 10 years ago when, young and naive and insane from taking birth control pills, I jettisoned a really good guy who I was ass-over-heels crazy about. It was so messed up, and I was so confused about it, I was very young and couldn't see how to fix it. And I suffered for years about it. (And like a good Buddhist, grew and learned from the suffering.)
And that's the kind of thing that happens if you don't know yourself and aren't aware of the "signs of the times", and that's why astrology is so powerful. So I'm saying, send the card, and be aware of your energy. It's just your energy.. you like this guy, and things are really squirrely.. and thus every little thing seems terribly important. And it is in its own way.. but it's a little thing at the same time... so send the card.. and know that the energy of romance is just plain weird during Venus retro. And there's nothing you can do but wait it out.

I've been reading your site for the last couple of monts and am hooked! I have a question and am not sure you can help but here goes. Someone who I was involved with last year (but broke up with as they were just not ready for various reasons) contacted me again this Dec and apologised for hurting me. Interestingly enough I came across your site and read about Venus in retrograde and the fact that past loves could come back which really surprised me as it was true for me!! I know this person has very strong feelings for me and I certainly never got over them but am not sure if what I am feeling now is just because of Venus being in retrograde or if it's because I genuinely have these incredibly strong feelings and should go with it. This person has not stated clearly whether or not they want anything from me but I've given myself until the end of Jan to make my mind up regardless of whether they do or not but perhaps I should wait until after the 3rd of Feb to make a proper decision based on what you have said. Thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry for your situation. Venus retrograde is all about reviewing the past and turning love inward.. in other words giving yourself the love you deserve. So many of us focus it on other people all the time and forget to love ourselves. Over time, you have the option to grow and learn from this, and build something better and stronger in the future.

hi-- wow this is my first experience with venus retrograde and it is horrible. i need help, please! my boyfriend of 3 years who has been head over heels in love with me and always talked about our future together (everyone could not believe how much he loved me and vice versa).
he lost it btw thanksgiving and christmas 2005 and broke up with me rather horribly -- all of a sudden one morning-totally diff person than who i had loved intensely all these years- like jeckel and hyde. he is a taurus (i am a cancer). i feel he went crazy and was saying i said things i KNOW i never did. he seemed genuinely confused/coo-koo. hugging me -- telling me how much he loved me while getting the pulley cart to bring my stuff to his car all the while i was pleading him to stop.
when i read your experience -- "The worst Venus retro ever for me was about 10 years ago..." this sounded exactly the same. like you were, he seemed tortured and confused -- he kept asking if i knew what to do -- which i didn't b/c i was in total mental and physical shock.
but i LOVE HIM SO MUCH and even all throughout this horrible/weird break-up he was saying he "loves me so much" & "has never loved anyone like me-- not even a family member." also, i believe love sometimes takes hard work and tenacity and that one person can save a relationship (am i crazy, i read it in a book).

Your boyfriend is not me. I had to do a lot of soul searching before I could make sense of things. It was my issue, and I was not a good partner. And even though I tried to hang on and it was painful, it was over. I don't know how yours will shake out in the end, but I think you should let it rest AT LEAST until Venus retro ends.
I'm an astrologer, and I have no charts to work with here. But it sounds to me like this needs time, time for you to get some distance and perspective, and him too. If I were you, I would use this Venus retrograde period to nurture and love on yourself, reminding yourself that whatever happens with him, you didn't deserve to be treated in such a way.

I recently contacted an ex flame via text message to ask for something back. I was surprised to find he responded right away and was warmer than I expected but he asked for something of his back too. How are you? , I found you're article on VR quite reassuring as I am having a strange and somewhat difficult time at the moment myself! I was wondering if you could shed some light on my relationship??
My relationship is really weird right now, I am not feeling very affectionate or positive -- in fact it just seems really flat and unpassionate. I even feel resentment -- though I don't even know what about really and last night I said something really wounding to him which I felt really awful about afterwards!
I have also been having dreams about other men who are strangers and wake up feeling quite guilty!!
We usually feel very good together and are able to laugh and be affectionate etc I feel alot of this has to do with me, though I am too confused as to the reasons -- I had a pretty rough childhood with my father who was an authoritarian bully and am wondering if this has anything too do with it??

I don't usually read charts here on the comments. But I pulled yours up. And what I found is Uranus approaching a square to your Venus. Now I hardly believe I can do this justice here in the comments. (That's why I don't usually do this). But I'll do my best.
Uranus always brings unsettling feelings/events and freedom urges. So I think what you're feeling is a need to break out of routine. And in your mind, do you think you may be casting him as your “captor”? It doesn't have to be that way. Go do your thing, do something different, make some new friends, get your ya-ya's out.
Uranus square Venus is often described as a relationship ending. That's not necessarily true. My boyfriend went through it recently and we are still together. Your relationship may come to an end if being with him is truly not the right thing, or if either of you tries too hard to make things stay the same. But you do have to start being honest instead of lashing out. Just tell Shaun how you feel, straight up. “I have ants in my pants and I can't be around you now.” Because it's not about him, is it? It's about you.
Aries folks have a little trouble not taking it personally, so you may need to drive that point home with him. Because the planets are a lot bigger than you. And this is something you just have to go through.

This Rx has been harsh on my life. I had some relationship issues and my car was stolen. I have been w/o my own transportation for two weeks. I recently saw a lisitng for a car I would very much like to own. I checked the VIN on a DMV site, and the car came out clean. I have a good feeling about the car, the price is within my budget. The owner wants to sell it quickly, and I haven't seen another car that I like as much. Should I wait until after the 3rd and risk someone else buying it? Or should I go ahead and close the deal on Monday but register it under my name until this astro mess is over?

Venus retro purchases can be great deals if you really know what you're buying. I say have a trusted mechanic check it over. If it gets a thumbs-up, go for it.

Hi Molly. I feel so blessed to have found your site. Your insight is truly remarkable. I met a man during the Venus retrograde. I'm really not certain how I feel about him. Sometimes I'm crazy about him, at times I don't think I want to continue to see him. At times I find him handsome, at other times I don't. I mentioned to him recently that his eye color seems to change according to what he wears. He said he's never been told that and that he's never noticed that about himself. I think I may be the butt of a Venus cosmic joke. I thought I read somewhere that people we meet during this retrograde are significant. Please say more about that. Initially I believed that relationships initiated during a Venus retrograde are doomed. I am hopeful now that perhaps after Feburary 3rd things will settle.

Hi Molly, thank you very much for your insight into Venus Rx. I would like to seek your opinion on the events that have happened during this Venus Rx. I am scorpio with cancer rising (10/11/1976) I have been going on n off with a male colleague (capricorn 1/15/66) since July 2005 and have been receiving mixed signals from him. Since Venus Rx started, I have started to feel more & more disappointed with him n his actions even though I empathise with his situation -- he just got divorced recently. Previously, he kept telling me that he does not want to start a relationship with me because he cares abt me and with others he does not care. However, I find that ironical. N now I feel like I dont even want to see him anymore. He probably felt it and since the start of January, we have not been talking much. How did Venus Rx affect me in this? Did I react this way becos of the Rx? Is this the end?
Another thing is, I just received a job offer during the Rx and the new employer is not willing to give me more time to consider as they need to finalise it before end of Jan. Will the fact that the contract was signed during the Rx affect the future of this job?

Venus retro reflects on money and relationships.. I would need to look at your chart to characterize the new job, I don't think starting during Venus retro means it's a disaster necessarily.

My 7th cusp is 16:54 Capricorn, and Venus is very early 16 Capricorn as it makes its station and goes D on my Descendant. That is trine my Taurus Moon at 12 and my love's composite Sun with me is 11 Taurus, and I'm so lucky to have my Venus at 9 Taurus, in the 11th. Only bad aspect to Venus is square Pluto, but Pluto has excellent aspects to Saturn/Uranus in Gemini and to Neptune very late Virgo. Only Pluto is 4 Leo and Saturn is going back to it for awhile!
So I'm confused. It's Good to have Venus turn Direct on my 7th, right? My love is sweet but distant right now, brooding and moody, trying to work out past relationships before we come together. We are patient. I just need some encouragement. Our composite is fantastic, best I've ever seen or had. Three conjunct (Venus-Mercury-Sun) in Taurus, four conjunct in Gemini, both our asc. and nodes affected by conjunctions, and progressed the same. It feels like it will be okay, but taking so long.

Hi Judy-- it takes a while for Venus to get back up to speed, she's moving at near normal pace by the end of the month, but now she is still very slow.
I'll confess to you that I don't have much use for composite charts. I have found much more value in looking at the natal charts and how they match up.

Hi SK9. I had a quick look at your chart and yeah, that’s kind of where things are for you now. You’re at the astrological “mid-life crisis,” a point in your life where you’re making a break with the past. Eventually it’s liberating, but while you’re going through it, it feels sucky.
If you want to research it in greater depth, look up transit Uranus opposite Uranus and transit Neptune square Neptune. The Uranus opposite Uranus bit comes later for you, but you have a nice transit Uranus conjunct Saturn which keeps things up in the air for a while.
This is a big deal, way too much for me to try to map out for you in the comments. You would be well-served by a professional chart reading. If not with me, go find someone.

I think you hit it on the head. The odd thing is, on one hand I feel great about letting go of the past but on the other…I don’t feel passionate about anything at this time. This worries me. I actually feel lost and lonely. How can I get back on track? Now with mercury retro. coming…things may get worse. Worst of all..it’s taking a toll on my health. I actually had to take time off work to nurse my daily headaches. Help!

I really liked what you had written. The effects that you have described here are something that happened to me. I got into a relationship with someone the week venus went retrogade, it was overwhelming and things were going too fast and we separated by the end of January!

My DOB Sep 6, 1959, 7:25 am, Toronto, Canada. Met a man on Sep 6, 2005, Dob June 10, 1957, Time Unknown, Brampton, Canada. He asked me out during a venus retrograde Jan 21, 2006. For me it was love at first sight, for him….it was that he wanted to date other women and it ended on Mar 16, 2006. I was very much broken hearted. Also, I was going through a Sun & Venus/Uranus opposition to add to my sadness. I am still very depressed and I don’t understand why this person has such a hold on me. Will I get over my feelings of grief? There is another Sun & Venus/Uranus opposition coming up in February 2007. Will my heart be broken again?
