Astrology and the Bible

Does God mind if we use astrology? Is astrology evil, or merely naughty? Will God smite us if we look into the future?
Or does the Bible tell us that God actually wants us to pay attention to his signs in the sky? Is astrology a gift from God? I hope this brief article will serve as a jumping off place for folks to consider an alternative viewpoint.
A couple of years ago, I attended a lecture by Bible scholar Stephen J. DeLapp, sponsored by the Richmond chapter of NCGR. I’ll share with you some Bible verses from his notes (these are mostly from the Catholic Bible).
Genesis 1:14 (4th day of creation)
“And God said, ‘Let there be Lights in the firmament of the Heavens to separate day from night; let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.’”
Jeremiah 31:35
“Thus sayeth the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the Moon and of the stars for a light by night.”
Psalms 8:3
“When I consider thy heavens, the works of thy fingers, the Moon and Stars which thou hast ordained…”
Psalms 103 (104):19
“You made the Moon to mark the Seasons…”
Baruch 6:59-67
(as compared to false gods of silver and gold)
“The sun and moon and stars are bright, and obedient in the service for which they are sent… but these false gods (of gold and silver) are not their equal, whether in beauty or power… Kings they neither curse nor bless.”
Esther 1:13
“the King said to the Wise Men, which knew the Times.. for all he did was by their counsel…” (Wise Men were astrologers.)
Daniel 6:27-28
”...the God of Daniel… is a deliverer and a savior, working Signs and Wonders in Heaven and on Earth, and he delivered Daniel from the lion’s power.”
Job 38:32-33
“Can you bring forth the Mazzaroth (the signs of the Zodiac) in their season, or guide the Bear with its train? Do you know the Ordinances of the Heavens; can you put into effect their plan on the Earth?”
And of course, the birth of Christ was announced in the heavens, and by all accounts, astrologers (known then as Wise Men) were present for the event.
Matthew 2:1-2 and 9-10
”...Magi came from the East to Jerusalem, saying ‘where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his Star in the East and have come to worship him.. And behold the Star that they had seen in the east went before them and stood over the place where the child was.”
Mr. DeLapp then put a map of the ancient Middle East up for us to see, and pointed out that although the star was in the East, the Magi travelled WEST from Babylon to Bethlehem to find Jesus. How they found the place is a subject of much speculation among some astrologers, however, it is clear that it was not a karaoke-like “follow the bouncing ball” situation.
For more info on the Magi’s star, see Rick Levine’s article over at StarIQ.com.
Matthew 16:1-4
“And the Pharisees came to him (Jesus) to test him, and they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. But answering them he said, ‘When it is evening you say “the weather will be fair for the sky is red.” And in the morning you say, “it will be stormy today, for the sky is red and lowering.” You know how to read the face of the sky, but cannot read the Signs of the Times.’”
The selections above tell a different story than most modern Christians would tell you. God actually invites us to use the lights in the sky as signals. God placed them there intentionally. They are ordinances, they are signs. He has ordained them. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.” As above, so below.
What about the case against astrology and other forms of divination? God clearly states in the book of Leviticus, for example, that you should not go to mediums, sorcerers, etc. But what about context? He also states you should not shave the sides of your beard, or wear linen and wool at the same time. How many of those who tell you that divination is evil, also shave their faces? Hmm.. Do they only follow God’s law when it suits them? (This is the book that intolerant people quote out of context to prove that God hates gays as well.)
Leviticus 19:26-27
“You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard.”
I learned a lot at this lecture about the book of Leviticus. It’s a history of a people’s migration. As the people of Israel moved into a new land, they had to pass through land which was inhabited by another people. They lived side by side with these other folks. Thus God gave them some specific instructions about how to conduct themselves during that specific time in history. How to and how not to intermingle with the other people. It’s all about context. (Any Bible scholars reading this, feel free to correct me or expand on this.)
Why would people misrepresent God’s word like this? I have my theories. Suffice to say, the Bible has a lot to say about false teachers and false prophets. All of us need to read for ourselves, and find the truth that resonates deeply within. Like the prophets and holy people of all major religions, Jesus taught compassion and love. Judge not thy neighbor.
Mazel Tov (may you be blessed with good constellations).

May you be blessed and held by the Lord. I too wonder at the wonder of the things the Lord has given us.
Would that we learn to use them to raise God's children instead of putting them down.

Great perception to say the least. It's all about “control” of the mass. Nothing more, nothing less!

Thankyou for this -to those of us who are believers in the power of the Word -this is indeed iluminating -it is all in reading with understanding-without a knowledge of astrology there was little way for the lay person to realise what those references really meant!

If you read 2 Enoch it SPECIFICALLY says (as in God TALKING) that He made the ‘Horoscope for every newborn'. i.e. God MADE ASTROLOGY.
However, astrology was also the teaching of the fallen angel Barakiel who co-habitated with human woman. It was a ‘secret of Heaven'....
I'll also add, that out of the 10 levels of Heaven, the 8th level in the Zodiac belt (Heaven is LITERALLY in space, hence why angels are termed at times ‘stars'. One of the fallen angels named Kokebiel literally translates to mean ‘star of God'), and the 9th level is the HOUSES of the Zodiac. Houses of the Zodiac are specificaly used to determine the Ascendant. Astrology works because it literally IS a secret of Heaven. Even the Book of Raziel and the excluded book of Solomon is full of astrology.
Originally both Christianity and Judaism accepted Astrology (hence why old Cathedrals have the signs of the Zodiac on them) but Augustine -- a Scorpio -- brought up pagan decided when he got coverted, in true Scorpio manner that astrology was ‘pagan' and had to be removed and was then considered ‘evil'. It was also Augustine which decided the Book of Enoch needed to be banned...

not to mention…the 3 wisemen were astrologers. The formation of the stars and planets that night drew them to Jesus. They knew that whatever child was born under that particular snapshot would be a very special person.

Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
I think this could be an astrological reference to the date pertaining to the appearance of a comet (great red dragon) in verse three and the ensuing events described. The dragon has 7 heads, 10 horns, and 7 crowns. 7, 10, 10, also appear later in the text. Are these relevant astronomical clues to the timing of the apocalypse? My gut says July 2007 could be ominous.
Your expert opinion would be appreciated. 1/3 of the stars fall. If that refers to the 50 United States: 1/3 of 50 =16.666666. 666 is also the number of the UN Security Council Resolution enacting total economic sanctions against Iraq prior to the first Gulf War. No state shall buy or sell…without the mark of the beast, or the number of his name: 666. The UN (a, one) is the 1 world govt., following the first beast League of Nations. ! 16 States could be doomed, and the Bible may be telling us when. This needs immediate examination. I agree with you for the most part. God is the Creator of everything in exsistence;there is no one else that can take credit for that.I believe that we,as a people, have given the devil(or evil)too much credit.I know that there is something to be said about astrology but there is no justification for giving socerers or magicians any accolades for anything;they are mere created beings after all.Acknowledgment has been misdirect, misappointed, mislabled, and misunderstood. There is but one God;one Being responsible for not only knowing the past ,present, and future, but being able to reveal it and further more make any of it happen.Any signs are just that…signs, not gods. They can only at most reveal what God has already spoken.

Wow… I never even thought about any of that—that way—before. It makes sense though; “let them be for signs and for seasons”. If that doesn’t imply that there is some rhyme and reason to astrology (according to the Bible anyway) then I don’t know what would…

And why not, why can’t we be channels that funnel down through our openness “thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.”
If for some reason you just decide to leave all this behind and just make that leap over to your neighbours space in gratitude and love, past judgement, you may find yourself.
In finding yourself you may realize their is no god, hey no right and wrong, no astrology, no parental authorities, in fact the land of dualities, absent, missing.
In this you may feel a great comfort. Stress relief.

I have a theory which I founded by the Lesser Key of King Solomon & the use of the 72 demons from the book of Geotia. Each demon has so many legions in where I reckon further study would prove a total of 6,666 legions (as in Revelation)
Baal is the 1st demon & has 66 legions of the False Monarchy of Demons under him; Agares is the 2nd & has 31 legions; Vassago the 3rd I do not know how many legions he has as yet…and so on.
If you place the pentegram on an astological birth chart, always with the “ether” point of spirit on the cusp of Capricorn, the consecutive points are then 72 (the amount of Demons as in the key of Solomon) degrees apart. 72 multiplied by 5 equals 360 degrees of the Zodaic. The point of Water (Gabriel) is at 12 degrees Pisces; the point of Earth (Auriel) at 24 deg Taurus; Fire (Michael) is 8 deg Leo & Air (Raphael) is 18 deg Libra.
If you then place each demon in its rightful place 1st to 72nd between each point of the Pentegram, anticlockwise, as the planets do sit, all your angles and planets within the birth chart will fall on its given Demon.
I have studied Astrology for 17yrs. My Ascendant is 4 deg Libra. I am astonished to find that this degree belongs to Amy, the 58th Demon who is “a great President & comes as a flaming fire and then as a man. He gives perfect knowlege of Astrology and the liberal sciences, has good familiars and can betray treasures that are kept by spirits”!!! I work with the Spiritualist Church doing psychic fayres also.
And so, all my other planets fall on appropriate Demons to their cause; ie. My Sun position is on the 1st Demon, Baal, “a king ruling in the East who imparts visibility and wisdom. Appears with a human, cat’s or toad’s head, or sometimes with all at once. Speaks hoarsely”.
I am still in study of this theory and put it to you to call on it further.

There are other refernces in the book of Enoch to “portals” of the heavens, through which the sun and moon move. Fwiw, see chapters 72,73, & 79: http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/boe/index.htm
These “portals” could relate to the “signs” and houses.

I appreciate your percpective – I’m not always clear in articulating my beliefs to members of my family due to the large blinders they wear and you’ve done a nice “cliff’s notes” version for me!
A thought on the beast – his name is the number – it may refer to a combination of stars and numbers. The Destiny number, Lifepath number – based on birthdate, and Soul Urge number – each equal the number 6 cleanly (not a 33/6 or a 24/6, just a 6).
Thanks again – I’ve been so tired of hearing the debate over whether my God has tucks or is just a big ass – I finally feel like I’m not alone in my search for the “Whole Elephant!”

throughout my life’s journey I have searched for truths concerning God and His TRUE word. Looking past the cliche believer. I am interested in the connection between astrology and my personal beliefs. The core of my path is involving light and love into everything in my life. I would love any information/ insights from any
people out there. Thanks and may we all be blessed with solace in our quests!…

Both of these will overtakein a moment, on a single day: loss of childrean and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries, and all your potent spells.
Keep on, then with your magic spells, and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the councel you have receved has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come foward. Those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. (Isaiah 47:9,12-13)

the 3 wise men are astonomers, not astrology…there is a difference. There were finding the child with the start from the study of astronomy.
Astrology is a secrect of the fallen angel, which in turn could be bad for the human race.
27 · Molly · 14 May 2008
The Magi read the signs in the heavens to predict and locate a terrestrial event. That's not astronomy, smartypants. That's astrology. But back in the day, the two sciences were pretty much one in the same.

According to people like Jordan Maxwell, David Icke and Michael Tsarion, the whole Jesus thing is a following of Astrology and the “plot” for the Bible is simply borrowed from other religions that predated Christian beliefs. They imply that by following this (Jesus and a Bible based on Astrology) are bad things, yet a couple of these guys seem to follow Astrology. I guess I am confused.

What is gods’ name people?Do you wish to be intimate.Use the name YHWH, not the title for true intimacy. Yes,I do believe that Astrology and the bible go hand in hand. This,of course,is the most important question of all time pertaining to the bible.Where does “YHWH” live?IN heaven?Ok.What is heaven?Does it have substance?Does it have dimension?Where is it?I am of the understanding that it(heaven),according to the Christian,Judaic bible, book of revelations, chapter 20,verse 16 describes said place.
12,000*12,000*12,000 stadia. That’s 1500*1500*1500 statute miles. In other words it’s a very large spaceship.YHWH is the captain and the angels are the crew. If,IF this is true, then YHWH guides this ship throughout the universe using the stars. Understanding the stars and “HEAVENLY” bodies as YHWH should in order to navigate around, then it’s probable that we should use this same system in all our daily functions, yes?Would not the omnipotent being want us to use this system for understanding each other.Learning who we are and what we can become? How we can help each other?Take care of one another? This astrological system would certainly help us to know each other much better and to understand all our idiosincracies. Therefore to help us help one another! There are many different ideologies about the bible but the main topic seems to be about learning to take care of ourselves using this “divine“system. Remember who wrote the bible.Man did.For what purpose? Also,we are but a tiny speck in this universe so should we use this system to “navigate” ourselves not just through our daily lives but through time and space?Does YHWH wish for us to do just that?Ponder and please,PLEASE,explore all avenues for all the knowledge available to you. And do stop and smell the flowers!!!Love to you all!
