Aquarius is the fixed air sign. Fixed signs are the most persistent and unchanging. Air signs are the most mental and social.

The modern ruler of Aquarius is Uranus, planet of eccentricity, rebellion, and change. The traditional ruler (and modern co-ruler) of Aquarius is Saturn, planet of responsibility, conformity, and tradition. Aquarians are special in that they have a little of both. And each Aquarian is defined by how they satisfy both the need to be different and the need to be traditional in some way.
If you have planets in Aquarius, they indicate where you have a visionary gift. The greatest strength of Aquarius is the ability to step outside of the “drama” of a situation and see things objectively. Aquarians tend to be good at science, or anything involving waves of energy— radio, TV, electricity, computers, Reiki, acupuncture, Feng Shui. Aquarius is also the sign that rules astrology.
Groups, and especially humanitarian causes, are also good for Aquarians to become involved in. Aquarians innately understand that when everyone in the community benefits, I benefit too.
Aquarius is the sign of friendship, and for the most part, Aquarians are easy to get along with. They are good listeners, but do not readily volunteer information about themselves. They have opinions, but probably won’t tell you what they are unless you ask them.
The trap for Aquarius is to think there is only one way of doing things, or one way of looking at the world. They can also get stuck in the air sign trap of trying to view everything in life through logic and reason. This works well only to an extent. When emotions get involved (which have their own logic apart from any “reasoning” of the mind) the gut level reaction from most Aquarians is to detach and retreat. (Planets in water signs, or a strong Moon may mitigate this tendency.)
The best strategy is to accept feelings as hard facts rather than personal decisions, and deal with them on that level. Emotional people will flip out if you tell them they “shouldn’t feel” a certain way. How many times have you been successful in deciding how to feel?

This is so incredibly accurate that I had to pass this site on to friends and family so that they could concur with my opinion on it. They did and found that their signs were also dead on.2 · Jo Anne Woolsey · 16 June 2005
Wow, when I read this it explained me to a tee. Helps me understand why I think and why I do what I do.3 · Sam · 11 August 2005
Thank you so much! I now know why I do what I do... and.. being in the field of science, it especially helps me know how to deal with my colleagues.4 · keola · 6 January 2006

This is one of the better astrology sites I have visited. The link to Astro.com I found very helpful as well. Many other sites don't seem to be consistant or accurate. Good work.

AQUARIANS UNITE!!!

well this is me but I never want to loose control surrendering to my emotions is a sign of weakness and no matter how hard I try I always block my emotions
10 · kristyn · 18 September 2006
and that would explain my dad-my mom is a leo sign and they ended up getting divorced, i kept telling them it was b/c she was a leo and he was an aquarius – that they didn’t understand each other, she would be like why doesn’t dad do this…she wanted compliments ALL the time-very insecure…i bet they would still be married if they would’ve read this article , darn !!!!
11 · Pooh · 11 November 2006
Yeah this is what Aquarians are all about. However I have a problem with my husbands lack of emotions and inability to express them. He never tells me he loves me and for me an aquarian I need to hear it. It seems to me I must be more of the emotional kind of aquarian. I was just near death and I never heard him say he loves me. Go figure.

kristyns comment just FREAKED me out! my boyfriend is an aquarius and im a leo. things have been going really well but at times we dont understand eachother. some other sites have said since aquarius and leo are opposities it could work. We both love eachother a great deal and not just in a physical way, in many ways. but now that ive read your comment im not so sure. can anyone shed some light here?
13 · Molly · 18 December 2006
For goodness sake, Alanah, do you really think that astrology is that black and white? Because Kristyn’s parents got divorced, and they had the same sun signs, that your relationship won’t work? Do you really think astrology is that simple?
I saw you commented on my Sun signs article where I tried to explain why you can’t predict whether a relationship will work or not based only on the Sun sign. Did it not answer your question?
14 · al · 26 January 2007
Hey Alanah don’t worry about your relationship too much. You can always balance the good and the bad. If your relationship has full of good then its ok. If not then its not ok…
I knew an aquarius girl who went out with a couple of leo’s before which didn’t work out in the end. Now she’s happily married to a gemini man.
This does not mean it will happen to you. Just take it as it goes.
Take it easy Molly.
peace.

OMG Ms. Molly the part were you say that Aquarius are good listeners explains why all my friend come to me when they need to take to some one…lol……
Okay I have a questions I’m going out with a Capricorn and for some weird reason I get really moody at times is that just me pms’ing or does it have to do with our sings?..

I am an aquarian I can honestly say that this is accurate for us. I was reading about my sign on another site(I think cafeastrology.com or something) and its similar to this one. I also found that we can be very willful and dominate(although we have a creative and sly of doing it, which most people wouldn’t be able to consciencally know that we are doing it go figure) and the desire for personal space and freedom is very strong no matter the age. I contest to this because my will to be free and have my own space is very strong and makes me very independent. We have powerful defense mechanisms and some of us(I know that I am) can be natural born leaders. And that expressing emotions inability is very accurate I find hard to do that when it comes to relationships. But if all people of any zodiac read up on themslves frequently you’d lear more about yourself. Strangele enough Aquarians can be good in Acting out drama(go figure huh)

This is so true for me, I hate telling people how I feel, showing emotional is off limits…Molly I wanted to know, 2012 is coming up and I’ve been having weird dreams, my last one had something to do with the Aztec, some how I ended up with some of their gold from the golden city. Then when ever a gold peice would start to move, that would be a way the world was going to end and I had to stop it…

i dont know why but this does not seem to describe me at all and im an aquarius (jan 21). the most part accurate is some of my strengths and weaknesses. maybe i need to reread this and have a diffrent understandind on what this article is saying.

My moon is in aquarius.
And I was born at 10:14 p.m.
at night.. so my moon sign is above the horizon on my chart.
So, I display most of my moon sign characteristics..
My sun is in virgo..
I am not neat, and tidy..
at all really.. I am a little..
but not really..
but the characteristics it just gave up above suit me a little bit more.

There’s a lot more involved in one’s personality than the sun sign – the ascendant and moon are also important. I’m an Aquarius with a Cancer ascendant and a Scorpio moon…let’s just say that unemotional and detached really aren’t in my vocabulary :).

I have these 4 astro bodies in Aquarius:
Saturn in Aquarius 6° (retrograde), 5th house
Part of Fortune in Aquarius 12°, 5th house
Juno in Aquarius 1°, 5th house
Valentine in Aquarius 9°, 5th house.
I already know that Saturn is the restriction planet, Part of Fortune is your area of luck & Juno is your soulmate sign. But can you give me more insight on what they mean in Aquarius, at those degrees, in the 5th house? And what does Saturn retrograde indicate? Plus what does the asteroid Valentine mean, in Aquarius?

Aquarianes RULE!
27 · AquaDiva · 3 April 2009
While most of this maybe very true, Me and my Aqua club find a lot of this to be false information. Aquas are not detached, impersonal or avoid emotion. We are some of the most sensitive people out there. I find that people say we are detached alot and it definately untrue. Why do you think we are so damn friendly and are strong humanitarians? Because we are so attached to nature and people.
28 · nicky · 11 June 2009
Well i find i can detach from anyone or anything in a sec like snap!! and then snap right back to caring if i choose. And untill i found a magazine expaining its normal i thought I was strange, but now i know im strange. :P
29 · stanley · 3 July 2009
i give you 10/10 for the wornderful and complex prediction of the aquarius personality.what makes me happy is the fact that aquarians are good listeners and humanitarians who are objective, eccentric and rebellious.

I am thoroughly confused.
I spent most of my younger years subscribing to the idea that I was a Capricorn. I found out in my late-teens that I was ‘on the cusp’, straddling Capricorn and Aquarius. I am now in my 30’s and having had a fascination with astrology for the past two decades (in a light-hearted manner) I have come across a lot of information on the said signs.
I find that I have traits of both signs and I often feel a bit of an internal conflict. lol – being on the cusp may not have a single thing to do with it at all though. :)
Does anybody have a view point on being a ‘cusper’ or have the same situation as myself? (DOB Jan 20th, I was born at 1:30AM in Paget, Bermuda)
Well, I’ve taken to reading horoscopes for both signs due to the confusion…but I’d really like to clear it up.
Thanks!
P.S. This is a most interesting outline of an Aquarius I’ve read. It seems more accurate to me (how I see myself) than any other I have come across. Some of these traits mentioned are traits that I would relate to a Capricorn sign and have never heard them as being traits of an Aquarian sign. For instance I have never heard ‘traditional’ for Aquarius before and would have considered that more for Capricorn…
This particular sentence strikes me and somewhat describes my internal conflict I mentioned.
‘And each Aquarian is defined by how they satisfy both the need to be different and the need to be traditional in some way.’

Hi Kelly – you are either one or the other, not both. Enter your birth details at www.astro.com, and you can find out for sure.

Hi Molly,
Thank you! That was very informative. I’m a Capricorn – 4hrs and 34mins later, I would have been an Aquarius!
Loved all the insight I acquired on the site.
Much appreciated. :)
