This is the glyph, or symbol, for Aries. It looks like Ram’s horns. Aries is the sign of the Ram. Aries people tend to do things straightforwardly. They solve problems by ramming their heads against them.
Aries is the cardinal fire sign. Cardinal signs are the most self-motivating and action-oriented of all. Fire signs are the most idealistic and enthusiastic. In Aries, we have the most active and inspiring energy in the Zodiac.

Rams prefer a direct, above-board approach to dealing with other people.
Aries is argumentative and quick to anger, and will readily express frustrations, but generally does not hold a grudge for long. Those born under more sensitive signs often do not know how to handle the raw, unfiltered energy. Aries does not mean to hurt your feelings! They just sometimes act before they think.
If Aries’ high energy does not find an outlet, or if anger and resentment are not dealt with and released, the tension might take itself out on the body. Mars rules the head, and folks with planets in Aries are vulnerable to headaches, migraines, eye problems, and jaw tension.
Aries people are not necessarily spazzes or bullies. This is a very common misconception. I often hear the complaint, “I/he is not like an Aries.” But it turns out the person is argumentative, impatient, and independent. And courageous, although courage is something most people do not recognize in themselves. Courage is not the same as brashness. One can be all these things and still have a quiet personality. In fact, many Aries people are quite shy. A ram is still a sheep!

At the end you say most aries are shy. I sort of disagree because I know many aries and Im an aries but we are very serious not shy. Aries hardly talk because we are serious but when we do talk we say big things and say great good things that most people would say “Wow”. Like now for instance.

This was interesting. I was kind of shocked that some Aries can be shy. I always heard that Aries were extroverts and aggressive people.
Quite the contrary, I am firey in some areas, but I tend to have a serious nature and only speak when I have something important to say. I’m fairly quite and most people would never see me as an Aries, I would think.
I’m new to chart reading, so this has been fun.

im an aries and im very quiet very tired often shy but im very quick to be angry and im extreamly stubburn i have the ability to be a go getter but im not and i love sleeping and staying in bed for 48 hours straight it sounds like my aries personality is mixed with something else i mean im stubbern and intelligent and quick tempered like an aries but i almost always think things through im very quiet and i dont talk much and i dont really like to be the boss im to afraid people will think im a bad leader and i often stay in bed because i can in other words i guess im lazy i dont really think these are aries traits so what am i mixed with am i some kinda crazy half bread

Don’t worry Grey, we’re all half breeds, in fact the pure energy of a sign undiluted by other signs tends to be almost too overwhelming.
Stubborn and tempted by instant gratification sounds like planets in Taurus.
And just because you don’t like to take the lead or be the boss in life doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be good at it! Most descriptions of Aries emphasize a bold, brash angle.. and it’s true that Aries folks tend to leap before they look, they’re impatient, have a temper.. but that doesn’t always equal an outgoing personality.. When you see those pictures of the Aries ram exuding smoke and fire, you don’t really see the softer side of Aries. A ram is still a sheep. And sheep are gentle, until they “get into it.”
Your chart is very complicated, it has to be to tell your story. There’s no one alive today who isn’t a “half breed” mixture of signs.
The key to a good life is nurturing your gifts and understanding your challenges.. astrology tells you what they are.. a good chart reader can pull the essence from your chart and help you understand what those gifts are and suggest strategies for success.

I agree with u that some Aries are shy. I’m an Aries and I’m shy. But when I’m around my friends or people I’m close to, then I’m heka loud and then my real energetic, funny side comes out and I feel relieved. I have a sister and she’s a capricorn. We argue all the time. Also, at first I could be acting like myself talking and laughing, but then when a really cute guy or my crush enters the building ..then everything falls and I’m instantly quiet and so shy. I hardly say a word but then yet I’m always the one who is so talkative. Another thing is I can’t be myself because I’m alwayz looking around to see who I’m comfortable with. What’s my problem. I’m so shy!

Maybe ya’ll dont know what the meanining of shy is? This sounds more like insecurity to me. Many aries females are insecure with their impulsive gogetterness because its not seen as the typical feminine woman I think. But I have many aries friends and you can always see the boldness just beyond the surface like your about to explode. Its in your eyes. You should always be yourself dont hold back. Just some advice out of love. Everybody is special.

Oh, I found an awsome website expaining each of the signs extemely in depth. It takes forever to read but its very helpful. It emphasizes not only the positive characteristics of each sign but the negative as well. Its one of those eye opening experiences when you read it, if all you’ve ever read about your sign is either too fluffy or not enough as if something is missing. anyway, its at www.deodaat.com. Hehe! Re: What it’s like to be a female Aries. Ahh…boy. I’d say it’s a mixed blessing, but I suppose that’s true for any sign. I think you may be right Jenn, about Aries women being assertive or feisty but possibly nervous about it in certain situations because it isn’t always welcome or socially ‘acceptable’.
Well let’s see. I’m an Aries female and I started to squelch this energy and am still in the process of freeing that Arian energy. A lot of folks told me that I was ‘too much’ when I was a kid, and so the Piscean/Neptunian part of my chart tried to merge/meld and chameleon, but I don’t think that worked very well. So, again, I do think a healthy expression of the fiery passion of Aries is good. I think a lot of my weight issue can be attributed to my lack of self acceptance, namely not accepting that Aries spunk. I tried to dumb it down, you see…so now I am trying to rediscover/honor it. I had an intuitive point blank tell me ‘The reason why you’re fat is that you’re ignoring yourself/your own spirit’
Hehe…oh you have Mercury in Aries, too, Molly? That is a bit feisty, too! Woo. Do you also get impatient reading manuals/instructions at times, and other times you’re voraciously reading and re-reading things? Ahh just curious. I find that energy to be interesting.
Speaking of sheep vs. ram, I am both! In western astrology I’m an Aries, and in Eastern (Chinese) astrology I’m a lamb. Hehe! Pretty funny. I do think there is a ram in the lamb and vice versa.
Speaking, also, of pure Aries energy…I knew a guy (who dated my sister) who was a double Aries. He was quite the intense Aries. I did not like the way he treated my sister, but that is not necessarily because he’s a double Aries, but he did exhibit the occasional harshness/brashness of Aries (the shadow side if you will) and always said things that hurt my sister. Of course my sister is a double Sag, so she probably said a lot of things too…

I was born the 2nd of April 1980.
All my life I have been independant and always lived in my own world. My problem is i can never shut up about thing i dont like. I have to have an opinion on it, because i truly beleive it can help to make situations better. Also i cannot lie, absolutely cannot without others taking notice, so Im always being myself … it is hard sometimes when seeing the looks on peoples faces as you drop a big bad negative on them. But damn i love it, you can always have a clear consience. I also connect very well instantly with other Aries, they understand what you say when you say it. 70% of my friends are Aries. Hardly coincidence. I like to win yes, but id rather see a weaker party get the win instead of me because they can grow stronger from the experience.

I’m not sure if your already aware of this but Ive noticed that almost every aries child that I have ever known which has been quite a few because two of my step brothers are aries and alot of my friends kids are too. Well, I’m really concerned because most of them are falsely being diagnosed with ADHD and being given medication to calm them down. This bothers me very much and I think something needs to be done about this, not only because it hinders the childs development but it also causes some big pychological issues in the child and later down the road. Surely there can be something done about this. Parents and doctors need enlightenment on this don’t you think? What do you think?

I am an Aries female. I would have to disagree about aries being aggressive and self-absorbed. I am totally the opposite. I agree with some aries being shy as i am, however; i am assertive round my friends and family and around new friends with time. I can be more talkative around certain personalities. I am not sure whether other Aries are the same as me but i am very supportive and have a strong caring nice nature about me that always shows. I defanately agree about Aries being Impatient. that is one of my weaknesses and so is being indecisive.

I am an aries with moon in aquarius and unfortunately cancer rising. I am rather shy and dont talk much until I get to know someone. However, I am also very intense ,passionate and have very penetrating eyes. I have a total of five signs in fire mercury in aries, jupiter, uranus and neptune in sagitarius. I only wish that I had no water signs cancer rising is the only water in my chart without it perhaps I would be unable to feel instead of feeling intensly with no way of expression beyond the songs that wont stop playing inside of my head. they say that aries women were probably the first ones to rebel against the opression of men. they were probably the first to wear pants, and most likely the ones that gathered the masses to get women the right to vote.
hitler was an aries. if he was able to convince so many in being part of something so negative, imagine what a positive aries can do?

Your comments made me curious. Who's the "they" that say these things? I Googled "first woman to wear pants," and all I found was a reference to the first woman to wear pants in the movies. (Marlene Dietrich, Capricorn.) Did someone actually keep records of such things?
Susan B. Anthony, the most famous of the American suffragettes, was an Aquarian. In fact, of all the others listed on Wikipedia, there are a Scorpio, two Leos, another Aquarian, an unknown birthdate, a Gemini, and a Cancer. No Aries. Now certainly, these are women with guts who had strong Marses and probably Uranus too. But I don't see any Aries Suns.

i am an aries and i am shy, i have anger issues. i feel that that is the reason most of my relatinshios never work. i am to straight forward and tend to speak my mind way to often. i agree with not letting things get in our way but sometime it is a promblem. competion is good for m only when it is in sports or dance, but to compete with others just because is really not all that great.

I love all these ambitious and proud Aries on here. I am an Aries and its interesting how much we all are alike. I also hate liars with a passion. I am somewhat shy around new people but I can’t shut up around friends and family. I am extremely fashion forward and I love taking credit for finding the latest greatest coolest things. I have a problem with complaining to much and voicing my opinion at every opportunity (like anyone really cares). I love to compete but only in things I know I can win, for example I refuse to play volleyball because I suck at it and I can’t just play sports for fun. My problem right now is that I can’t find a job in the field I want to pursue and I refuse to settle for anything less or different, I am stubborn. Another problem is that I am constantly paranoid that my boyfriend will fall in love with someone else or cheat on me even though I know he loves me and only me; its like he can never say enough to convince me that I am perfect for him. I know that he is perfect for me though. It’s probably that aries insecurity thing or something. I am working on not being to self-absorbed. One thing that helped me was two of my good friends who are also Aries females are incredibly self-absorbed attention whores and seeing them in action made me recognize my short comings. Question: If to Aries females are in a group of friends, does one have to step down or take the back seat?

Aries are competitive, but I think the "fight" aspect is overplayed in most cases. I think our essence is that we're independent, straightforward and honest (sometimes to a fault) and love a challenge, not that we are dominating. So I don't think that's true necessarily. I don't know any Aries woman who requires others around her to step down, no matter what sign they are. (The only woman I know who's like that is a Scorpio.) On the contrary, even though I'm a spitfire, I am quite shy, and appreciate having someone around who can draw me out.
Remember, the Ram is still a sheep! Healthy Rams only butt heads when the time is right.

I thought I’d (attempt to) weigh in on the Aries woman discussion.
Being an Aries woman, I’ve noticed that if I’m around other Aries (women or men), I tend to moderate my Aries energy a bit, OR sometimes I let it out more, if it seems like that works better.
However…more often than not, I think that all the other aspects of the chart are equally if not more important.
Say for instance I’m with Molly. She’s an Aries. We’re both Aries with Aries Mercury (if I remember correctly), so on that level we understand eachother right off the bat. We’re both feisty communicators and such. But perhaps her Libra rising is connecting with my Sag rising. Or if I connect with my dad, who is also an Aries, but we both have water moons, so emotionally we are both pretty watery and tender, but don’t necessarily want to show it (our Sag rising wants to appear friendly, confident, worldly).
Anyway…there are lots of Aries in my family and I’ve had to interact with all of them at one point or another. There’s always that fiery, pioneering energy, and I suppose that a fellow Aries would have to figure out a way to connect with that—but I don’t think it has to be a power struggle.
BUT...
With that being said. I have had a few instances with an Aries male or female where I felt like I couldn’t stand being around them because it was like looking in a funhouse mirror (i.e. “Dang, that person is just acting too Aries). Sometimes a negative expression of Aries in myself or others catches my eye and annoys me.
Case in point is my sister’s ex-bf. He is a double Aries (Sun and Rising) and is always “on”...he’s got that aggressive, playful Aries energy up the yinyang. When I was around him I felt like I had to really STRUGGLE to keep up, and that’s saying something because sometimes I find myself to be tiring to be around (although I am not 100% sure if that’s my perception or not). Anyway, especially since they had some umm..relationship issues, he would become a bit of the crude Aries tyrant. I couldn’t stand how he treated my sister.
If this Aries fellow had unleashed that Aries zing on me, I’d give him that look that says “You’ve GOT to be kidding if you think you’re going to mess with me, bub.” That’s one thing about being an Aries that I really appreciate. I feel like I have a strong core. I am definitely sensitive and impatient and there are some aspects of being an Aries that are a bit of a pain but when I see someone being browbeaten (either by an Aries or anyone else) I don’t want to stand for it.Ok…I think that’s enough of an Aries rant.
I’ve been pondering this topic of Aries energy for a while. I do think, ultimately, it’s how you use the energy that is important. If one has a tendency towards a bad temper or being impatient, there has to be a counterbalance or a self check to make sure things don’t get out of hand. I think every sign and every personality has to keep an eye on these things.

I agree with most if it.Im an Aries and alot of these traits relate to me but some dont.Im a shy person but only to those who i dont know.Otherwise with my friends,im always loud and talktive but sometimes im just not in the mood so im also moody you can say.
Im also argumentive espeically with my sister(who’s a scorpion) we fight alot and when we do it’s always loud,heated and“sometimes“it can get physical.
I wouldn’t say that i thrive on challenges because im still young.Otherwise im quiet aggressive.And they also say that arians are slim and toned out,i dont workout or anything but i have a high metabolism so no matter how much i eat im always skinny though i have gain about 4 or 5 pounds.But that dont worry me much : )

I am an aries female and i agree with nearly everything on here i am shy with new people but the loudest of a group of people i know. Im proud to be aries and fight the under dogs corner. I am very insecure and constantly have to be reasured by my boyfriend that im attractive and he loves me is this an aries trate or just me lol. I will always speak my mind ans always have an opinion but i dont think that is a bad thing and jus replying to the girl who said shes really rhin but eats lots im the opposite im really short and stumpy.

I’m a double Aries, and act nothing like “Aries”, so I was glad to see you say that Aries are often shy… I’d never heard that before. But my Aries Sun (12th house) is also square my Cancer Moon, and I’m completely out of touch with my emotions, including anger and active energy. Working on it though!
I just wanted to clarify, at the end when you talked about refining the Aries Chart by looking at Mars…. you had down Mars in Virgo under both Intellectual and Physical inclinations? I am an aries too. Though I feel confident and well orientated to public speech and charismatic skills, I feel that I am more lighthearted and feeling orientated than others. I care about others feelings, I observe things carefully, and I love to talk with other people about their life, and their goals, and sharing ideas together. I just want to say this, becuase not all aries are very outright emotionally challenged or aggressive. I find that the only thing competitive with is (not surprisingly) my love which doesn not know I love her, and challenging myself to do better with drawing and to gain confidence to confece my love. So, love is the only thing I am competitive about. I’m shy at first then when i get to know people im myself, i dont like fighting but i wont be pushed around for aries i think alot of people kinda ruin the fire once you get away from those people you can be yourself and people will love you. i alsio agree with the person at the top when aries say something people really do say wow like the thing we said is amazing people don’t think there intelligent but we are when it comes down to it. if we think more, we can achieve antyhing, thats why its a good thing for fire signs to hang around with air signs we complment them and they compliment us.

Regarding the comment about the woman’s movement above: Gloria Steinem is an aries (very famous feminist) as is Justice O’Conner (only female supreme court justice), and maya angelou (famous feminist/poet)…I don’t mean to equate myslef with such accomplished people but I’m an aries and I’m currently the only girl at my school on the patent law moot court team. We aries may not have the aquarius and gemini nice “humanitarian” motive, but not giving a shit does make us break rules. ;)

I’m an arian female, and I love what you said about rams at their essence being sheep Molly! I used to never see myself in the description of Aries, but I think part of that was due to a suppression for a variety of reasons. For example, our favorite color is supposed to be red, and I now love red, but my previous favs were muted with something else (pink, garnet, & brown – though I still ove brown).
I am definitely shy, extremely so, but am quite greagrious in environments where I feel at home. I have always been quiet, but even in my youth I used to have sometimes bitter arguments with my father who was of course an Arian (born on the same date actually).
I used to think my muted Arian personality had to do with my ascendent and moon (Scorpio and Libre).

Im an Aries with a Moon in Aquarius. I have many Aries traits. Im very shy yet loud around those I know. I am a know it all in class,but only if im 100% sure of the answer because I do actually hate to be wrong.I tend to be very tempermental and all of my decisions take very little time to make. I am also sharp-tongued, and I can be very insensitive to the point where I’ll be nasty to your face even if other people are around and if are around I usually get louder.

My brother is an aries sun, moon, and venus. He’s an ass. I’m a virgo…basically we have a deep love for each other but both completely misunderstand each other. I often say if he wasn’t my brother, I’d have NOTHING to do with him. My grandmother, aunt, and nephew are aries also. They are ALL argumentative, impulsive, self-centered, oblivious as to how they come off to others, and opinionated. And their opinions always seem to be polar opposite of the norm. You cannot tell my brother anything, he thinks he knows it all and expects everyone to do as he wants them to. One thing I will say about him is that if anybody looks at me wrong, he is the first to defend me. We don’t get each other but at the end of the day, my drive is to love and protect him. The Mars ruled, Arian part of whom some of us are tends to oversimplify. Life as an adult gets more challenging, as seeing things through simple lenses is what is innate for us—there is a lot of room to grow. Naivity at fact! It may not strike you, that the intelligent, quiet girl you feel to have good rapport with may actually want you to stop telling her about yourself-she may not want you as a friend. Or, the arrogant, narcissistic male your dating who feels “uncomfortable” to hold your hand, and bullies his siblings may be an set-in-ways jerk. And perhaps that one sibling of who’s feelings you hurt by projecting your fiery, burst of temper on is inclined to seek revenge on you for causing him/her pain.
Oversimplification . For example, seemingly understanding of the world through descriptions “very good,” “that’s bad,” and believing your simplification really speaks the truth – and the likes, has it’s pitfalls. Such as, pairing/group conversations rampant with your sensational inputs (dramatizations), without getting deeper with core feelings, and the evidence available through some preparation or thorough research… leading to uninteresting, non-productive conversations; poor observation of your environment and behaviors of others (it personally you aren’t involved – it doesn’t matter that person seeks to use every one in sight); being able to be a in the public eye (as if with a front) then when that talk or lecture is over…not being as seriously invested as the quiet, thorough soul who sits in class and listens and actually know more than you.
Personally, I’ve been called “naive” by some friends, and closer friends. Insult at first, lesson at best! This sounds like insult, but the main cause of this is that there is an inherent will to oversimplify. Whereas, those Virgins, and Capricorns, Geminis, Scorpios out there are superb thinkers and such will be more calculating with situations in regards to spending/collecting money, making friendships, and achieving a long term goal.
Instead of oversimplifying (which is also unrealistic) I found that dabbling with areas that seemed pessimistic (reality) are helpful to live in this world ran by adults. By being more evaluating, critical, and conceptual in my thinking I may one day do a simple thing—having a conversation—to a challenging things—running a household w/a partner—with thoroughness and sustainability instead of naivity.

Well, a lot of these little stories are nice. Though, there is a high difference between being afraid, shy and just plain not outgoing at all. I am an Aries female, of course. I love to boast, I’m always outgoing, never really shy what so ever. I do have a silent pose about me. I’m mostly very quiet when I am uninterested in a situation. Though when it comes to being in love with a magnetic scorpio, (which I am.) I turn my head to his chest and breathe slowly. I do become like silly puddy in the palm of his hands, and then I feel like I want to show him all of me. My life, that is. I probably have a weird chart, as My sun is in aries linking to my moon in aries and Rising in Gemini plus mercury is in aries.
Does it explain my extremely flirtatious nature as I get called a maneater my best friends only as I love men. I agree with you on everything you said. ‘I was ion yahoo answers and there were a bunch of Aries saying that I don’t think I’m like an Aries because I’m SHY’. lol I’m Aries only in my Venus sign so my approach to relationships and friends is very independent like. But what I notice about the difference between a person who is Aries Sun verses Aries in all the other planets is that no matter how they act, their energy, their likes, their dislikes, even how they woo they ones they want, they are always admirable and everyone wants to be like them. All the Aries I heard on this site have a sort of innocence to they way that they responded, innocence as in they are straight forward to who they are without beating around the bush. Even if they don’t voice their opinion all the time, (which is something an Aries would never do anyway. They believe action speaks louder than words) when they do speak they are straight forward and to the point.
By the way from what I recall most Aries like to always be first but don’t care if they are leading anyone. Unlike the fire sign Sagittarius who want to be looked as heroes and the fire sign Leo who wants to be looked at as an independent leader, none of them do it as well as the Ram, Aries who have natural heroic and leadership abilities. They don’t even have to try! :) All of my Aries friends and even family I admire and wish I was more like them. They have fire in their eyes that makes them seem like they would do what others wouldn’t do.
