Aries strengths and weaknesses

This is the glyph, or symbol, for Aries. It looks like Ram’s horns. Aries is the sign of the Ram. Aries people tend to do things straightforwardly. They solve problems by ramming their heads against them.

Aries is the cardinal fire sign. Cardinal signs are the most self-motivating and action-oriented of all. Fire signs are the most idealistic and enthusiastic. In Aries, we have the most active and inspiring energy in the Zodiac.

Mars, planet of high energy, aggression and assertion, arguments, fighting, sex is the ruler of Aries. Wherever you have a planet in Aries, or where you have Aries on the cusp of a house, you have this Martian fighting spirit, for better or for worse. Mars is the do-er, the warrior; he has youthful, physically active, and sometimes combative energy. Aries natives need some kind of physical activity as an outlet for this high energy. They tend to be good at sports and enjoy physical activities like dancing, hiking, or peace marches.

Rams are aggressive, self-centered, and impatient, but honest, uncomplicated, straightforward, and willing to meet a challenge with enthusiasm and courage.

Aries is independent and childlike, the perpetual teenager. Aries folks have a need to compete and they thrive on challenge; they really want to win. Although they enjoy companionship, they are independent and not afraid of being alone. They are very good with new beginnings and unafraid to try new things. Rams prefer a direct, above-board approach to dealing with other people.

Aries is argumentative and quick to anger, and will readily express frustrations, but generally does not hold a grudge for long. Those born under more sensitive signs often do not know how to handle the raw, unfiltered energy. Aries does not mean to hurt your feelings! They just sometimes act before they think.

If Aries’ high energy does not find an outlet, or if anger and resentment are not dealt with and released, the tension might take itself out on the body. Mars rules the head, and folks with planets in Aries are vulnerable to headaches, migraines, eye problems, and jaw tension.

Aries people are not necessarily spazzes or bullies. This is a very common misconception. I often hear the complaint, “I/he is not like an Aries.” But it turns out the person is argumentative, impatient, and independent. And courageous, although courage is something most people do not recognize in themselves. Courage is not the same as brashness. One can be all these things and still have a quiet personality. In fact, many Aries people are quite shy.

Where you have Aries in your chart can show you where you have these strengths and weaknesses.

Chart reading tip:
To refine your reading of an Aries chart, look at the Mars sign. Mars in Taurus, Cancer, Pisces, Libra will mellow out an Aries Sun person. Mars in Gemini, Aquarius, Virgo gives a more intellectual emphasis. Mars in Virgo or Capricorn suggests a physical application— hard work and ambition.

1. At the end you say most aries are shy. I sort of disagree because I know many aries and Im an aries but we are very serious not shy. Aries hardly talk because we are serious but when we do talk we say big things and say great good things that most people would say “Wow”. Like now for instance.

2. This was interesting. I was kind of shocked that some Aries can be shy. I always heard that Aries were extroverts and aggressive people.

   Quite the contrary, I am firey in some areas, but I tend to have a serious nature and only speak when I have something important to say. I’m fairly quite and most people would never see me as an Aries, I would think.

4. Don’t worry Grey, we’re all half breeds, in fact the pure energy of a sign undiluted by other signs tends to be almost too overwhelming.

   Stubborn and tempted by instant gratification sounds like planets in Taurus.

   And just because you don’t like to take the lead or be the boss in life doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be good at it! Most descriptions of Aries emphasize a bold, brash angle.. and it’s true that Aries folks tend to leap before they look, they’re impatient, have a temper.. but that doesn’t always equal an outgoing personality.. When you see those pictures of the Aries ram exuding smoke and fire, you don’t really see the softer side of Aries. A ram is still a sheep. And sheep are gentle, until they “get into it.”

   Your chart is very complicated, it has to be to tell your story. There’s no one alive today who isn’t a “half breed” mixture of signs.

5. I agree with u that some Aries are shy. I’m an Aries and I’m shy. But when I’m around my friends or people I’m close to, then I’m heka loud and then my real energetic, funny side comes out and I feel relieved. I have a sister and she’s a capricorn. We argue all the time. Also, at first I could be acting like myself talking and laughing, but then when a really cute guy or my crush enters the building ..then everything falls and I’m instantly quiet and so shy. I hardly say a word but then yet I’m always the one who is so talkative. Another thing is I can’t be myself because I’m alwayz looking around to see who I’m comfortable with. What’s my problem. 7. Maybe ya’ll dont know what the meanining of shy is? This sounds more like insecurity to me. Many aries females are insecure with their impulsive gogetterness because its not seen as the typical feminine woman I think. But I have many aries friends and you can always see the boldness just beyond the surface like your about to explode. Its in your eyes. You should always be yourself dont hold back. Just some advice out of love. Everybody is special.

8. Oh, I found an awsome website expaining each of the signs extemely in depth. It takes forever to read but its very helpful. It emphasizes not only the positive characteristics of each sign but the negative as well. Its one of those eye opening experiences when you read it, if all you’ve ever read about your sign is either too fluffy or not enough as if something is missing. anyway, its at www.deodaat.com. 11. Hehe! Re: What it’s like to be a female Aries. Ahh…boy. I’d say it’s a mixed blessing, but I suppose that’s true for any sign. I think you may be right Jenn, about Aries women being assertive or feisty but possibly nervous about it in certain situations because it isn’t always welcome or socially ‘acceptable’.

    Well let’s see. I’m an Aries female and I started to squelch this energy and am still in the process of freeing that Arian energy. A lot of folks told me that I was ‘too much’ when I was a kid, and so the Piscean/Neptunian part of my chart tried to merge/meld and chameleon, but I don’t think that worked very well. So, again, I do think a healthy expression of the fiery passion of Aries is good. I think a lot of my weight issue can be attributed to my lack of self acceptance, namely not accepting that Aries spunk. I tried to dumb it down, you see…so now I am trying to rediscover/honor it. I had an intuitive point blank tell me ‘The reason why you’re fat is that you’re ignoring yourself/your own spirit’

    Hehe…oh you have Mercury in Aries, too, Molly? That is a bit feisty, too! Woo. Do you also get impatient reading manuals/instructions at times, and other times you’re voraciously reading and re-reading things? Ahh just curious. I find that energy to be interesting.

    Speaking of sheep vs. ram, I am both! In western astrology I’m an Aries, and in Eastern (Chinese) astrology I’m a lamb. Hehe! Pretty funny. I do think there is a ram in the lamb and vice versa.

    Speaking, also, of pure Aries energy…I knew a guy (who dated my sister) who was a double Aries. He was quite the intense Aries. I did not like the way he treated my sister, but that is not necessarily because he’s a double Aries, but he did exhibit the occasional harshness/brashness of Aries (the shadow side if you will) and always said things that hurt my sister. Of course my sister is a double Sag, so she probably said a lot of things too…

12. I was born the 2nd of April 1980.
    All my life I have been independant and always lived in my own world. My problem is i can never shut up about thing i dont like. I have to have an opinion on it, because i truly beleive it can help to make situations better. Also i cannot lie, absolutely cannot without others taking notice, so Im always being myself … it is hard sometimes when seeing the looks on peoples faces as you drop a big bad negative on them. But damn i love it, you can always have a clear consience. I also connect very well instantly with other Aries, they understand what you say when you say it. 70% of my friends are Aries. Hardly coincidence. I like to win yes, but id rather see a weaker party get the win instead of me because they can grow stronger from the experience.

    I’m not sure if your already aware of this but Ive noticed that almost every aries child that I have ever known which has been quite a few because two of my step brothers are aries and alot of my friends kids are too. Well, I’m really concerned because most of them are falsely being diagnosed with ADHD and being given medication to calm them down. This bothers me very much and I think something needs to be done about this, not only because it hinders the childs development but it also causes some big pychological issues in the child and later down the road. Surely there can be something done about this. Parents and doctors need enlightenment on this don’t you think? What do you think?

21. I am an Aries female. I would have to disagree about aries being aggressive and self-absorbed. I am totally the opposite. I agree with some aries being shy as i am, however; i am assertive round my friends and family and around new friends with time. I can be more talkative around certain personalities. I am not sure whether other Aries are the same as me but i am very supportive and have a strong caring nice nature about me that always shows. 22. I am an aries with moon in aquarius and unfortunately cancer rising. I am rather shy and dont talk much until I get to know someone. However, I am also very intense ,passionate and have very penetrating eyes. I have a total of five signs in fire mercury in aries, jupiter, uranus and neptune in sagitarius. I only wish that I had no water signs cancer rising is the only water in my chart without it perhaps I would be unable to feel instead of feeling intensly with no way of expression beyond the songs that wont stop playing inside of my head. 24. they say that aries women were probably the first ones to rebel against the opression of men. they were probably the first to wear pants, and most likely the ones that gathered the masses to get women the right to vote.

    hitler was an aries. if he was able to convince so many in being part of something so negative, imagine what a positive aries can do?

    i believe aries are capable of making anything they focus on happen so why not focus our fire/passion on making positive changes?

    Your comments made me curious. Who's the "they" that say these things? I Googled "first woman to wear pants," and all I found was a reference to the first woman to wear pants in the movies. (Marlene Dietrich, Capricorn.) Did someone actually keep records of such things?

    Susan B. Anthony, the most famous of the American suffragettes, was an Aquarian. In fact, of all the others listed on Wikipedia, there are a Scorpio, two Leos, another Aquarian, an unknown birthdate, a Gemini, and a Cancer. No Aries. Now certainly, these are women with guts who had strong Marses and probably Uranus too. But I don't see any Aries Suns.

30. I love all these ambitious and proud Aries on here. I am an Aries and its interesting how much we all are alike. I also hate liars with a passion. I am somewhat shy around new people but I can’t shut up around friends and family. I am extremely fashion forward and I love taking credit for finding the latest greatest coolest things. I have a problem with complaining to much and voicing my opinion at every opportunity (like anyone really cares). I love to compete but only in things I know I can win, for example I refuse to play volleyball because I suck at it and I can’t just play sports for fun. My problem right now is that I can’t find a job in the field I want to pursue and I refuse to settle for anything less or different, I am stubborn. Another problem is that I am constantly paranoid that my boyfriend will fall in love with someone else or cheat on me even though I know he loves me and only me; its like he can never say enough to convince me that I am perfect for him. I know that he is perfect for me though. It’s probably that aries insecurity thing or something. I am working on not being to self-absorbed. One thing that helped me was two of my good friends who are also Aries females are incredibly self-absorbed attention whores and seeing them in action made me recognize my short comings.     Aries are competitive, but I think the "fight" aspect is overplayed in most cases. I think our essence is that we're independent, straightforward and honest (sometimes to a fault) and love a challenge, not that we are dominating. So I don't think that's true necessarily. I don't know any Aries woman who requires others around her to step down, no matter what sign they are. (The only woman I know who's like that is a Scorpio.) On the contrary, even though I'm a spitfire, I am quite shy, and appreciate having someone around who can draw me out.

    Remember, the Ram is still a sheep! Healthy Rams only butt heads when the time is right.

33. I thought I’d (attempt to) weigh in on the Aries woman discussion.

    Being an Aries woman, I’ve noticed that if I’m around other Aries (women or men), I tend to moderate my Aries energy a bit, OR sometimes I let it out more, if it seems like that works better.

    However…more often than not, I think that all the other aspects of the chart are equally if not more important.

    Say for instance I’m with Molly. She’s an Aries. We’re both Aries with Aries Mercury (if I remember correctly), so on that level we understand eachother right off the bat. We’re both feisty communicators and such. But perhaps her Libra rising is connecting with my Sag rising. Or if I connect with my dad, who is also an Aries, but we both have water moons, so emotionally we are both pretty watery and tender, but don’t necessarily want to show it (our Sag rising wants to appear friendly, confident, worldly).

    Anyway…there are lots of Aries in my family and I’ve had to interact with all of them at one point or another. There’s always that fiery, pioneering energy, and I suppose that a fellow Aries would have to figure out a way to connect with that—but I don’t think it has to be a power struggle.

    BUT...

    With that being said. I have had a few instances with an Aries male or female where I felt like I couldn’t stand being around them because it was like looking in a funhouse mirror (i.e. “Dang, that person is just acting too Aries). Sometimes a negative expression of Aries in myself or others catches my eye and annoys me.

    Case in point is my sister’s ex-bf. He is a double Aries (Sun and Rising) and is always “on”...he’s got that aggressive, playful Aries energy up the yinyang. When I was around him I felt like I had to really STRUGGLE to keep up, and that’s saying something because sometimes I find myself to be tiring to be around (although I am not 100% sure if that’s my perception or not). Anyway, especially since they had some umm..relationship issues, he would become a bit of the crude Aries tyrant. I couldn’t stand how he treated my sister.

    If this Aries fellow had unleashed that Aries zing on me, I’d give him that look that says “You’ve GOT to be kidding if you think you’re going to mess with me, bub.” That’s one thing about being an Aries that I really appreciate. I feel like I have a strong core. I am definitely sensitive and impatient and there are some aspects of being an Aries that are a bit of a pain but when I see someone being browbeaten (either by an Aries or anyone else) I don’t want to stand for it.

    Ok…I think that’s enough of an Aries rant.

    I’ve been pondering this topic of Aries energy for a while. I do think, ultimately, it’s how you use the energy that is important. If one has a tendency towards a bad temper or being impatient, there has to be a counterbalance or a self check to make sure things don’t get out of hand. I think every sign and every personality has to keep an eye on these things.

38. I agree with most if it.Im an Aries and alot of these traits relate to me but some dont.Im a shy person but only to those who i dont know.Otherwise with my friends,im always loud and talktive but sometimes im just not in the mood so im also moody you can say.
    Im also argumentive espeically with my sister(who’s a scorpion) we fight alot and when we do it’s always loud,heated and“sometimes“it can get physical.
    I wouldn’t say that i thrive on challenges because im still young.Otherwise im quiet aggressive.And they also say that arians are slim and toned out,i dont workout or anything but i have a high metabolism so no matter how much i eat im always skinny though i have gain about 4 or 5 pounds.But that dont worry me much : )

39. I am an aries female and i agree with nearly everything on here i am shy with new people but the loudest of a group of people i know. Im proud to be aries and fight the under dogs corner. I am very insecure and constantly have to be reasured by my boyfriend that im attractive and he loves me is this an aries trate or just me lol. 40. I’m a double Aries, and act nothing like “Aries”, so I was glad to see you say that Aries are often shy… I’d never heard that before. But my Aries Sun (12th house) is also square my Cancer Moon, and I’m completely out of touch with my emotions, including anger and active energy. Working on it though!

    I just wanted to clarify, at the end when you talked about refining the Aries Chart by looking at Mars…. you had down Mars in Virgo under both Intellectual and Physical inclinations?     aries people really divide the world into two parts- friends and enemies.
    they tend not to interact with the enemies. so, there is a sort of reserve in them.some aries tend to be soft spoken, because they want to get out of the life of aggression. if this is what u mean, by shy, its ok.
    however, if u mean introvert, effeminate people, soft spokem, dominated people, i am sorry, i cant agree wid u.
    many signs act upon an individual. if an aries is shy, then, it is due to the ascendant, sun sign (in case the moon sign is aries), moon sign (if the sun sign is aries) etc.
    as far as i am concerned, in my school life, i was shy.my sun is in cancer, and moon is in aries. now the shyness is gone.simply evaporated. the effects of sun sign is decreasing.

    I have noted that cause i am an Aries, Mars Rx in Scorpio 4th house, (ASC Leo, Moon Virgo, North Node in Gemini 10th house, final dispositor: Pluto)
