This is the modern glyph for Pluto. It looks like the letters “P” and “L” combined.

This is the traditional glyph for Pluto.
You will probably see both symbols used to represent him, and both are correct.
Pluto rules the sign
Scorpio.
Pluto’s influence is subtle, yet very very powerful. Pluto represents deep psychological processes that can drive one to control or gain power over some part of her life. These drives are very dangerous when they remain unacknowledged, in the unconscious mind. When this drive is brought into the conscious mind where it can be understood and integrated into the personality, it indicates a healthy self-control and ability to heal others.
Pluto takes 250 years to complete a cycle. The time he spends in each sign varies, because his orbit is elliptical rather than circular. He spends between 12 and 30 years in a single sign.
These keywords describe Pluto:
Extremes
Death and Rebirth
Survival instincts
Transformation, Healing
Cruelty, Manipulation, Guilt
Power, Healing
Reproduction, Regeneration
Pluto rules the Government, and Nuclear Energy, and also the Bowels and Genitals.

Dear Molly. Terrific site! Im just trying to learn to read my chart.
However, im a little confused; The houses are different aspects of life, but when planets are in certain signs, is the house affected by the planet that was in that house, or the sign that the planet was in… or how does it work?

Hi Heidi—
As a rough guide, you can use the following template:
My (planet) operates (sign)ly in my (house)
Now that’s really rough.. you are going to come out with some sentences that don’t make any sense.
My power operates charmingly in my unconscious (that’s my Pluto in Libra in the 12th).
And charmingly barely scratches the surface of what Libra is.. but at least you have a starting place for understanding how it’s all put together.
The late Joan Negus wrote a book called “Cosmic Combinations” that has some exercises for interpreting planets in signs in houses. It’s very helpful!

Hi Molly!
Can you help me see how a Pluto transit to one’s 7th house might manifest in their life? Any keywords that could help me understand this transit?
In your opinion, does Pluto being retrograde in the 7th house (as it is now) make a difference as opposed to it being direct?
Thank you so much Molly.
