This is the glyph that represents the Sun: a circle with a dot in the middle. Can you find it in your chart?
In astrology, the word “planet” has a slightly different meaning than it does in astronomy. The origin of the word planet comes from a Greek word meaning “wanderer.” Astrologically speaking, a planet is a body that appears to “wander” or move across the sky, including the Sun and Moon1.
The Sun is the center of our solar system, and also represents the creative center within us.
Ego, Soul, Self
Creativity, Character
Each planet in your chart also represents certain people. The Sun represents Your Father, Men, The Boss, and Authority figures. Conditions around the Sun in your horoscope describe your relationship to these people.
Each planet also rules a part of the body. The Sun rules the Heart.

So for my friend, what about when natal sun 2nd opposes saturn 8th Aquarius 8 degrees and transiting saturn crosses sun in Leo. Isn’t that a lot of saturn at one time? Personally I am getting alot of contact with the influence firsthand of his father recently.

Hi there Molly,
Hope you are doing well, what a great website you have created here.
I had a question for you – as you have read people’s charts over the years, specifically Composite Charts, do you see alot of Sun-Pluto aspects?
Or would Sun-Pluto aspects be something that you would identify as significant when looking at the composite chart of a couple?
And what if the aspect was an exact conjunction of Sun-Pluto, would that make the aspect that much stronger?
Thanks for your input, Molly.
In gratitude,
T. Leon

Hi Thomas-- Thanks for your kind words! I can't say I have noticed a pattern. But I don't read composite charts much. (I think synastry is much more significant.) When I do, I tend to notice planets on angles more than aspects. It's not that I don't notice the aspects, just that they don't seem to be as important as what's on the angles.

Hi Molly, apropos of your tutorial on the Sun, I wonder would you consider writing a bit on afflicted planets. (Disclosure: the interest comes from an afflicted Sun in my chart which has only hard aspects to other planets. Despite being a Leo, all of my life I have been bedevilled by a very un-Leonine lack of physical energy, and various minor health conditions. In my own case, the Sun position in the Sixth House may also exacerbate that.)
Anyway, there is very little out there on the web on afflicted planets, never mind the impact of an afflicted Sun on the entire chart, so I keep thinking a general overview may be of interest to many readers.
Whatever you think of this suggestion, really.

Stephen, that’s a good suggestion, it would be a good thing to do for all the planets, actually.
Afflicted Sun is sensitive to attention, may crave it but then feel uncomfortable when they get it. There’s also the type that masks insecurity with arrogance and bravado. Afflicted Sun tends to take things personally that aren’t meant to be. And there’s low vitality, which you picked up on. All of these can be mitigated by nurturing self-awareness and taking care of the deep need for acceptance and belonging, a true recognition of your specialness, that underlies the insecurity. Self love.
How did I do? :)

Molly, thanks a lot, both for your response, and for considering the suggestion. I guess for me, it’s mostly the low vitality. And a not-Leo-like modesty. But that can be an asset – not everyone likes a tall poppy. :-)

I find that a lot of Leo suns like to lay low. I think it’s a symptom of extreme ego sensitivity. I get a lot of bewildered e-mails from Leos who wonder why they aren’t “like a real Leo.” I tell them they are, but the world tends to get it wrong.
