Uranus: the enlightener
Posted under Planets
This is the glyph for Uranus. It looks like a capital “H” with a bell-clapper.
Uranus is the ruler of
Aquarius.
Where Uranus is found in your chart, you have a need for independence, to march to the beat of your own drum. This gives you the gift of originality and opens you up to sudden flashes of truth. That is why Uranus is considered to indicate a potential for genius. Uranus in the chart also indicates a place where you might be too rebellious for your own good, resulting in deviance, stubbornness, or hardheadedness.
Uranus circles the zodiac in 84 years. He spends approximately 7 years in each sign. Therefore, everyone born in the same 7-year period as you will have Uranus in the same sign as you.
The following keywords describe Uranus:
Sudden Change, Oscillation
Inspiration, Flashes of Truth
Eccentricity, Deviance, Originality
Rebellion, Need for Freedom
Humanitarianism
Uranus rules Chi, Electricity, Astrology, Computers, Electronics
Kooky people, deviant behavior, “energy” healing—e.g. acupuncture, Reiki, Feng Shui
and the Nervous System
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are planets that were discovered fairly recently. They move more slowly than the inner planets. They represent forces that operate on a worldwide and longer-term level, and the way you experience the cultural influence of your time.

I need help with the North Node now coming to a Sun at 4 Aries with Saturn trine at 4 Leo, and he has Fortuna conjunct his Saturn, and Sun trine his Moon in Leo, so all of this look very promising for his career and reputation and forward movements.
What exactly does North Node transiting over the Sun signify?
Thanks for your help. I had an extra l in my email and just took it off.

Hi Molly:)
Uranus has been transiting my 7th house for the past 2 years, but now it just recently became conjunct with my Natal Moon…
Ive been researching this online, and the words that come up are emotional freedom, revolutionary change in the way I relate to others, experimenting in relationships, possibly ending relationships that dont serve me, etc.
Is there anything you can add to this, or the fact that Uranus is not just in my 7th house, but also conjuncting my moon…? Moon rules emotions, so does this emphasize the transit that much stronger?
Thanks so much Molly:)
– Maia4 · Molly · 3 May 2006
Hi Maia—
Uranus opposed my Moon recently, and I think the biggest gift I got was that it helped me break old emotional habits.
Pisces Moon is wonderfully sweet, but Pisces’ biggest flaw is that they tolerate the intolerable. And some of them I have known take out their frustration on other people in their lives. Innocent bystanders.
Moon in the 7th instinctively nurtures others. But what about those who never give anything back? When Uranus hits your Moon, your feelings are lit up, old patterns are no longer a given, everything is subject to questioning, and any intolerable situations in your life.. surprise! You can’t tolerate them anymore. Like a chick emerging from an egg, the space is just too small to contain you anymore. Uranus demands that we be more truthful with ourselves, and consequently with others.
So you can see how this process brings about those keywords you found: emotional freedom, changes in the way you relate to others, ending relationships that don’t work, road-testing your new self (i.e. experimenting with relationships).

Hi Molly,
Regarding a Uranus transit in one’s chart, typically in your opinion, does the "freeing" part (becoming free of old habits/relationships) tend to happen during the transist – or after the transist has passed?
I am also experiencing a Uranus transit to my natal moon, and wanted to ask you if that would manifest differently then lets say, a transit to a different planet – such as one’s natal sun?
Would the transit manifest in the same way? Just curious as to the significance of a Uranus transit to one's moon versus other planets.
Facsinating website you have here Molly:) Thank you for the work that you do here….
T.L.
6 · Molly · 19 May 2006
Hi Thomas—
Thanks for your kind words.
I think the "freeing" happens during the 2nd and 3rd passes of the transit usually.
The Sun governs your character, your motivations for doing things, your father and his influence and legacy in your life, men and authorities in your life. It’s about respect, self-respect, recognition, who you are and how you shine. So a Uranus transit to the Sun breaks away any old limiting situations around those ideas to allow an updated version of yourself that has been incubating within to break through.
The Moon is similar, but it tends to be more inward. It’s about your home life, dependencies, habit patterns, your emotional security needs, your mother and her influence in your life, women, people who nurture you and those you nurture. All of these ideas are subject to change when Uranus transits the Moon.

hi molly;
do you have any thoughts on a sun transit of uranus at 10 cancer, second natal house, (july 2 this year, my 54th) with uranus being central to all my being?
i have always like july 4th and the founding father are really cool. Especially B. franklin who the mention of this time or year can make me tear up. (all tangent ‘cause nationalism is played. we gotta find something that works.) but i just, like duh, checked it.
natal uranus is the base of a t-square with mecury 9 aries 11th house and saturn 10 libra 5th house. uanraus also sort of trines (120?) retrograde mars 15 scorpio 6th house.
every thing else is either bunched up in the 10th, 11th or 12th house or the 4th, 5th or 6th.
i have yet to find much on line about Sun transits. i appreciate any thoughts you may have and understand i am likely one of many asking you stuff.
thanks again;

Hi Whit-- it sounds like an interesting day. Sun transits last only one day, so it's not a hugely important event unless it "triggers" a more important transit or progression. For example if you already had an outer planet aspecting the same planets (you don't today). But certainly anything transiting your natal t-square will bring feelings or events connected to the t-square. So it may bring some surprising event or provoke the inner conflict between your rebellious tendencies and the rules you live by. The transit is strongest for about one day before it's exact.
Easy does it,

HI MOLLY.
Great site…just researching uranus transiting my south node. It’s soon to do my moon. Both are in Pisces, and I am ready to have these areas further refined, and liberated.
Kudos again on all your work. I too have a libra rising, yet without your go-getter aries sun! My mellow taurean self does plan to practice counseling astrology…and natural medicine. You’re an inspiration (and a beauty!).
Namaste.

Thanks Ryan! Astrology and natural medicine don’t seem like they would be a good blend, but the more I read charts and talk to people, the more I see a picture of their physical condition as well as psychological/spiritual in the chart. You will probably find this too. Good luck!

Hi Molly,
I’m a little bit concerned about how a uranus conj moon (moon in pisces -natal 9th house) transit in my daughter’s chart will affect our relationship. She is 12. As yet I have read nothing positive about this transit from any source.
thank you, Elsa

your site is amazing..i have a question about health.i have uranus on my des. exact,,and since then my arm and shoulder is frozen. it is painful and inflammed..like electric pain too(uranus) is there a direct connection to muscle and a type of pain with this transit..i also have saturn igniting all my early fixed signs..my moon in leo..merc in aquar. neptune in this t square in scorpio.. thanks for any comments ..bless you
13 · Molly · 22 November 2006
Ilona,
Uranus transiting the descendant would have more to do with relationships. I think you should see a health professional about your arm.
Elsa, if you’re still there, Uranus conjunct Moon to me is a time of breaking (Uranus) old habits (Moon) and emotional patterns. I have been through the opposition, and I did experience a lot of nervous energy. A lot happened, but it wasn’t all bad.
If you can get your hands on a copy of The Gods of Change by Howard Sasportas, he has a wonderful writeup on Uranus transits.

help!!! i have uranus transiting my 5th house. My libra rising desperately wants to be in a relationship
but every time i come across someone who strikes my fancy somethings goes wrong! the love affair just goes poof! i have 7 planets in virgo 11th and 12th house; uranus in pisces opposing. I also have saturn retrograde aries in the 7th. I met my last two lovers during mercury retrogrades. What gives???? i appreciate any insight. Thanks!!!
15 · Gregory · 30 September 2007
I have a fifth house sun squaring Uranus in the third house, both are making Uranus an opposition, the Sun a square with the Moon in the ninth house. Should I fear about my children if I’m going to have any? Is it so bad? Would you recommend me to have children. Please, if you have the time, tell me. Thank you so much.
16 · Molly · 2 October 2007
Hi Gregory— I really don’t know. If your Sun and Moon both square or oppose Uranus, then you might value your freedom so much that you decide not to take on the responsibility of having children. But this is your decision. Whatever you do, take the fear out of it. Fear will not help you or your future family.

Dear Molly,
I have just found your sweet blog. Yes, it is amazing seeing people taking care of others by the simple pleasure to help. For that, God bless you forever! My life has been stucked…and I took a look into my map and saw a coming Uranus conjunction with my Moon, that in natal chart I have in pisces (8th H almost 9th squared saturn in 6th) – What means I will have Uranus conjunction Moon AND squaring Saturn at once. Will I survive it??
Thank you very much ;)

Transiting Uranus in[Pisces]has been in my natal 5th house for some time now. I have Venus-Sun-Mercury all in pisces in the 5th, and I became pregnant with my daughter! Talk about shocked! Uranus has squared my Moon, and my Mother died suddenly in April. It was, and still is, a total shock. I am hoping to move soon also. I hate my living situation!
I have Uranus[in Libra] conjunct my Asc., so I’ve always been restless, and a bit flaky. Transiting Uranus is now Trining my MC., and I am thinking of changing professions. I’m hoping that now is a good time to do that.
20 · Molly · 30 June 2008
Transit Uranus trine MC sounds like a great time to change professions. And move too (Uranus trine MC = Uranus sextile IC) Good luck.

I have a Uranus Trine Uranus going on at the moment plus Neptune trines Neptune . Feel terribly unsettled though I know I have a really “good” life -.Want to do something completly different but don’t know how . Also have become completly besotted by a man 20 years younger than me who lives thousands of miles away and who is not interested in me ! Is this characteristic or am I just going bats !
22 · Molly · 3 July 2008
Hi Mary— no, that’s not typical of Uranus trine Uranus or Neptune trine Neptune as far as I know. The thing with the faraway guy does sound a little nutty. But it also sounds like you’re trying to break out of a rut. I do suggest you follow these creative/restless urges and see where they take you! Look for something closer to home, something you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to.

Interesting comments. I had Uranus trine Uranus in 4th and Pluto quincunx Jupiter in 2nd; I sold my beloved house of ten years where my children and I had grown. A month or so before completion of sale and move I got arrested for drink driving following a day completing necessary paperwork on the house sale. We went ahead and moved. Eighteen months later (more or less) I have, or am about to have, Uranus conjunct Moon in 12th. Feeling loss; want to go home, to my old home, but cannot. It is sold and cannot be replaced. I am still reeling socially, financially and professionally from conviction and emotionally from the loss of my home. Beware Uranus and Pluto. I don’t see a way back or forward. Hope this is helpful to any reader out there. Be careful!

Christine,
Thank you so much for the comment. I lost my home too, when my grandmother died, and I became homeless, and had to move into a shelter. I am really afraid, and don’t know if I am making the right decisions. I pray to god, that everything works out.

Hi Molly,
I’m glad I stumbled on your interesting site. I have Uranus transit opposing a stellium of planets in my fourth house (Virgo/Libra) with conjunctions of Jupiter,Mars,Uranus and Pluto. In addition this quartet is the focal point of a T-square bet. Moon (Cancer in Asc) and Venus (Sag. in Desc.) Quite a whopper! I feel as if I want to crawl out of my skin! All this also involves a South Node in Libra! I recently lost my Mom and little brother whom I took care of my entire life. I’ve been enslaved to my family all of my life and now that I’ve lost the two greatest Karmic anchors that I had I feel like I’d like to run for the hills! I’ve changed professions completely (from nurse to writer) and after 20 years of marriage feel like I want to change my husband too! Is this all just transitory or should I fly toward my destiny? I know its a long ques. but any reply would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Amy
28 · Molly · 18 August 2008
Hi Amy— You should definitely flap your wings and find areas in your life where you can feel that freedom and shake things up without upsetting your long term stability. But it isn’t wise to do something so drastic during a Uranus transit. Unless your husband is abusing you or something. If you still want to leave after it passes, then at least you will be sure. But the pitfall of a Uranus transit is to do something out of boredom and restlessness that you’ll regret later on when your energy settles down.
29 · Lara · 2 September 2008
hi molly
great site and the last entry is a perfect description of how i feel right now with the choices i am thinking about making
i am having uranus conjunct my south node in 12th house. my north node is conjunct saturn in the 6th house. Uranus is also squaring my stellium moon/neptune/mercury in sag 9th house, and trining my venus/uranus counjunct in scorpio 7th/8th house
so right now i feel like moving out of my house and living out of my car.. it feel like a very impulsive thing to do, and i guess that’s what uranian energy is all about. are you saying with your last post that perhaps i shouldn’t make such rash decision yet… it’s a long transit, so to wait until it’s over will me a while. i’m also having trouble making a schedule for myself (my work is flexible) and i am actually really resistant to it.
can you speak into any of this??
thanks
30 · Molly · 6 September 2008
Hi Lara— why not start by keeping the house and spending a weekend in the car, see how you like it. I know that would cure me of wanting to live in the car. But I have a lot of Taurus in my chart. We Taureans love our creature comforts.
You have to feed Uranian energy, or else it gets really hungry. So do something off-the-wall every once in a while. That will keep your impulses in check, and hopefully prevent you from doing something dumb and permanent.

My 11 year old son’s Uranus just entered his 8th house and is about to transit his lunar south node. I know this it little to go on, but I was hoping you might have some insight on what this means for him. Thanks!
32 · Molly · 28 October 2008
Hi Susan— I am assuming your son does not own Uranus and you are talking about transiting Uranus. There has been an awful lot written on transiting Uranus in the houses. A good source to start with would be Robert Hand’s book Planets in Transit. A transit of Uranus to the south node may bring up rebellious tendencies. I would read up on the nodes to understand the energy better. A good source for that is Jan Spiller’s book, Astrology for the Soul.
33 · margaret · 10 November 2008
I’m currently having Uranus transit my natal Sun (18 degrees Pisces) and trine my natal Mars (17 degrees capricorn) for I believe the third time. I thought this should be a time of me needing freedom, etc, but the Uranian energy seems to be manifesting more in my boyfriend, an Aries (with Virgo rising/Virgo moon) than in me (he’s questioning commitment, needing to be alone to figure himself out, evaluating his identity and individuality, etc). This is especially true for the first and third passing of Uranus over my Sun. Can you explain more about this? Why it’s happening through him, etc?
34 · Kathryn Layard · 26 December 2008
Hi was searching the internet for some insight regarding Uranus transit conjunct IC at a time when Pluto is about to move into my 2nd house. We were forced out of our home of 30 years last year, bought another home but hated it so sold and currently are living with relatives trying to work out what to do next. We would like to buy a home next year but I am wondering if it is a good time with Uranus on my IC. Can anyone provide any insights? Thanks, can’t seem to find anything on the internet
35 · Molly · 29 December 2008
Hi Kathryn— Uranus conjunct IC is typically not a time for settling down. Things tend to be too shaken up during a Uranus transit. Maybe you could rent for a year until your energy settles. That way you leave your options open.
36 · Cindy · 3 January 2009
Hi Molly
I just stumbled on your great website in my research on Uranus. Transiting Uranus is sitting on my ascendant at this moment and I really feel extremely restless and want to make some changes, my job being one. In my chart, Uranus is in the 5th, sextile the sun which is in the 2nd. It is also square Nepture. I have been hopeful that transiting Uranus will bring good things due to the sextile to my sun. Any thoughts you have on my situtaion would be greatly appreciated.
37 · Lynn · 6 June 2009
Hi Molly
I, too, luckily stumbled on your website while researching transiting Uranus conjunct my IC/Moon.
I can probably handle Uranus, and quite enjoy it while its conjuncting my IC/MC and Moon, – but what is really scary, is when the universe throws transiting Pluto square my Moon and transiting Saturn oppose my IC/Moon into the mix. All aspecting my moon on & off for the next 12 -18 months thereabouts (my Moon is 2 degrees Aries in the fourth – IC end of Pisces).
Desperate for stimulation/adventure/change and all that Uranian stuff in my ‘Ground Hog Day’ existence but at the same time, wrestling with fears of insecurity, uncertainty, apprehension. I want to step out into the unknown, try something new, maybe sell my house or move house – its stepping out of that comfort zone, boring as it may be …that’s the hard bit. Any suggestions on how to handle these 3 ‘biggies’ as they aspect my moon at the same time. Thanks.
38 · Molly · 8 June 2009
Hi Lynn— Don’t sell your house just because you’re feeling antsy! You’re looking for excitement and a feeling of freedom. You can have it without sacrificing your stability. Do something else to get your ya-yas out. Take at trip, go skydiving, or ride a rollercoaster instead. Let the Uranus transit pass, and if you still want to sell your house, you will still have that option.
As for throwing Saturn and Pluto in there, I have a few things in early cardinals and am quaking in my boots a little too. 2010 will be an interesting year for us.
