Jupiter square Saturn and the local Fuzz

Karl Rove may be off the hook for the meantime, but at least here in Charlottesville, the hammer of justice is falling.

Charlottesville’s Daily Progress reported this morning that two city police officers will plead guilty to accepting bribes of money and sexual favors, in exchange for their turning a blind eye to prostitution and other naughty things happening after hours at a nightclub. They were originally busted in 2001.

Whaaat!? Prostitutes in Charlottesville?! In this quiet town, where a PTA officer embezzling $200 from the kitty makes headlines? Where the annual murder rate is in the single digits? I had no idea Cville had a seedy underbelly.

The astrological blueprint behind this is pretty interesting. In this week’s sky, Jupiter (cops and law) is squaring Saturn (accountability), and Chiron (wounding, pain). This is happening everywhere, not just here in Charlottesville. Jupiter describes an expansive, optimistic, freedom-loving and bigger than life attitude, and is in Scorpio, sign of the seedy underworld, sex and prostitution. And power, feelings of invincibility.

But there’s trouble in paradise when the Fuzz ( Jupiter) bumps up against The Rules ( Saturn). The cops (Jupiter) overstepped (Jupiter) their authority (Saturn) and now they have to face the consequences (Saturn).

Like people, cities also have astrological charts. The past few weeks, transiting Jupiter has been close to the Charlottesville chart’s Moon, in the 5th house of enjoyment and debauchery. (Click on the image to see the chart.) A Jupiter transit to the Moon is usually an uplifting, joyous kind of thing, but with all this interference from Saturn recently, and from the Nodes in the City chart, well. I don’t know if an event like this is inevitable, but for the citizens, represented by the Moon—it gets our attention.

Now, I have lived in some debaucherous places, let me tell you. Charlottesville is tame, it’s not even close! If Charlottesville were a person, she would be a bit like Ferris Bueller’s sister, someone who never gets away with fun stuff and is mad about it! So the cops in C-ville get busted and Rove gets away with all kinds of crap. Who said life was fair, toots? With Venus opposite Saturn, her fun is limited by a serious demeanor and patriarchal notions of propriety. And she has a difficult time expressing what’s really on her mind and in her heart. The current transit of Saturn and Chiron to Charlottesville’s Moon and Venus (the feminine planets) triggers and exposes those issues and brings up the pain around them. This is a hard time in Miss Bueller’s life.

There’s still hope that Bush, Rove, and their buddies may pay the piper, however. This Fall, Jupiter and Saturn will meet up once again, and this time they will both touch Neptune, the planet that governs fraud and deception. Saturn forces the issue, and when he touches Neptune, he requires that liars stand accountable. Will Mr. Rooney finally catch up with Ferris? Time will tell.
