Sun signs like oil and water: Are we doomed?

I really really really like a Taurus, but everything I read says that Gemini and Taurus are set for failure, what’s up with that? We get along so great and he’s not as domesticated as what the web sites read. I’m tired as I’ve been bouncing from relationship to relationship and I’m only 23, lol! But the thing is, I know what I want, I want him, but I want to know why Gemini and Taurus don’t work and if anyone has experienced this and knows why.

You have to take those Sun sign things with a grain of salt. Compatibility is complex and multifaceted, because it involves two entire charts, not just two Sun signs. Your Sun sign is just one square of the enormous patchwork quilt of your psyche, and how you click with another person depends not only on the Sun, but on the Moon, Venus, Mars and all the other planets, both in your individual charts and between them.
For every columnist who says a certain Sun sign combo can’t work, there’s a happy couple to prove them wrong. So don’t let a reductionist thing like Sun signs have you doubting what’s in your heart.
Take me for example. I’m an Aries with a Cancer man. Try reading up on that sometime! We are not “supposed” to work at all if you read the Sun sign rags. And it’s true that our temperaments are quite different. But our Moons are exactly conjunct, and there are other ties between our charts that reflect how we work well together as a couple despite differences in our basic character (shown by our Sun signs). We have been together nearly 4 years now.

I agree with Molly about generalisms. My most memorable relationship involved a woman whose natal Sun (27Vi26) was nearly conjunct my natal moon (27Vi21). This relationship rocked…per our emotions and per the books…but the other aspects (her Aquarian moon/Sag asc=need for total freedom grated against my Leo asc/Sco Sun=VERY strong personality) eventually split us.
Looking at the aspects gives insight into blendings and trouble spots (areas of improvements). Nowadays, I use the info to glean insight into managers and co-workers.
I’d like to make an observation. I know of a handful of couples whose sun signs are back to back – Cap/Aqu, Leo/Can, Aqu/Pis and they are longstanding marriages where there seems to be much affinity, in spite of ups and downs. In all of these relationships the females’ sun sign precede their husbands’ sun sign. Is there anything to this?
I myself (Aries/Can/Vir) am quite drawn to Taurean men. My first love was a Taurus. I’m always telling friends I want to marry a Taurus!

If you read Linda Goodman’s Love Signs, at the beginning, she goes through and explains all the different possible relationships in terms of the number of signs away things are. KittyTaurus over at Celebrity Astroblogy doesn’t think much of consecutive sign relationships. But she does understand that there is much more involved than the Sun sign.
As for the consecutive sign couples that you know, maybe it’s coincidence?
Good luck with your future Taurus mate. I have been close to some Taureans, they are delightful, but what a handful! I forget who it was that said a Taurus is a nice Scorpio. :)

My sun is the opposite of his moon, our ascendants are opposites, but that lovely stabilizing influence we both have in Capricorn brings it all together. Love that Capricorn influence! (Or, as my partner once said, “man, we spend so much time acting indignant and huffing and puffing!” He was dead right, too. It’s all a grandiose show some days. Love him to bits!
And as a Taurus, I can vouch not only that a Taurus is a nice Scorpio, but a Scorpio is often a nice Taurus. And vice versa and on and on we go…

my first love was a male pisces. dont kno if he felt the same :( but i thort it was good while it lasted. my nboyfriend now is an aquarius male. ive never been with an aquarius before as i usually go for saggitariuses so its definitely different in a good way. so as i am a leo, im finding not many compatable male signs for me. Just to comment on Maire’s observation: yes I did notice this, too. I’m an Aquarian and somehow I’ve always had the most intense relationships with Pisceans. It’s weird because I can’t stand them sometimes (too weepy/clingy) but no one quite touches me like they do.
It’s the same for my sister. She’s a Cap and is mock-complaining about her string of Aquarians. Maybe it IS just a coincidence, too, but what a interesting one, no?

I agree about compatability being more complicated than just comparing sun signs, and I think it’s a bit harsh to say any relationship is doomed to failure. I think it’s more accurate to say it points out potential difficulties.
My grandma and grandad were a Taurus and a Gemini and they were married for 51 years. So anything is possible really.
