Vancouver

I know there aren’t that many of you reading, but by any chance, is anyone in Vancouver? I’m looking for ideas for my mom and me— a place to stay, places to eat, things to do. We will be there for a few days in June.
Mom’s a sweet church lady, retired from the military. I’m an astrologer/herbalist earthy type. We both enjoy good food, good coffee, gardens, nature, people watching, music, festivals, etc.

ACK! Just wrote a huge thingy and lost it. Oops! Caffe Artiggiano has wicked coffee, and there is one right near the vancouver Art Gallery, which you might enjoy visiting Mon-Thurs 1-4pm just to check out the amazing Library in there. Art books galore.
Please, please, please check out the Marine Building at 355 Burrard Street, (Cross street: West Hastings) for the amazing Art-Deco architecture and Marine-Life inspired details and the GIANT zodiac inlayed in marble on the lobby floor! You’ll love it! Check out the whole place, including the elevators. It is a treasure.
I’d recommend Kitsilano for a B&B, to have easy access to the beach, organic grocer (Capers—they have a deli), places to walk and a quick cab/bus downtown). The Maritime museum is there too, and great. Not sure what kind of budget you’re on, but you can always take the roundabout bus route from downtown to Horseshoe Bay (where the ferries to Vancouver Island leave from). It’s the #250 (not to be confused with the express 257), leaves from Georgia Street, and takes you long the coast. About 1 hour each way, and only about $3. Great views of the ocean. Van Duesen gardens are a great botanical garden.
Please email if you’d like more info :)

OOh, I just thought: Definately check out the Libra Room on Commercial Drive for live music every night. Jazz and Blues, not loud. A really nice place for tapas and a glass of vino. Not too far from downtown. Continental Coffee, a family run cafe for the last 25 years, has the best coffee and amazing iced mochas. And of course, it’s called the Libra Room so it’s perfect :) I love travelling so much. I travelled with my Dad to India and it was a blast—going with a parent can be a wonderful thing.
